I realize I haven’t been on this site for a while
But that may change, since tumblr is experiencing trouble. I may or may not try to export my tumblr to this site. Memory limits may be a problem. I don’t know yet.
At any rate, if a whole bunch of posts from years ago suddenly appear here, it’s because I figured out how to export my tumblr.

Feeling Low Creativity
There are several things I can do about this, including wait and see if the kids going to school will leave me more alone time and thus more time to think. But I think one of the things I should try is doing a little bit of fanfic. I credit fanfic with having revived a lot of my love of writing.
I can’t publish it through normal channels, of course, but if I come up with a story, I’ll link it here.

Sales and Plans
I have enrolled my books in the Smashwords Summer/Winter Sale. What that means is that, through Smashwords (and only through Smashwords) you can get Echoes of the Ancients and The Fire-Moon at fifty percent off, starting July first and ending on July thirty-first. Coincidentally, this should also be during the period when I finish up posting The Fire-Moon’s distant prequel, Hounds of the Princess, to wattpad. So anyone who was enjoying Hounds of the Princess can come on over and buy The Fi...

It’s my own fault really
In the HeroKids game, I have given the characters a tagalong pet monkey for reasons. (He’s actually an enchanted prince.) So far, so good.
I decided to give him a special attack: Annoy. This attack does no damage, but if it succeeds, the target attacks the monkey next time rather than any of the other characters. He draws aggro, in other words. So far, so good.
My daughter, who has really taken to the idea of the monkey, has a toy monkey. Which she brings to the table every single time....

New Story Starting on Wattpad
I’ve started to post a new story on wattpad. It’s a prequel to The Fire-Moon, although both are pretty self-contained and can be understood by themselves. The story is called Hounds of the Princess, and it follows a princess named Nefri. I already have the story written out, but I will edit and post a section every Friday. When it’s finished, I’ll put it up on Smashwords for free.
I worry a bit about Nefri as a protagonist. She is sometimes oblivious, both to the dangerous events going o...

Just a Reminder
The Kindle Countdown sale for Rogue Ship starts May 7, which is Monday of next week. As you probably know if you follow this blog, Rogue Ship is a heavily Star Trek-influenced story about how a society can go wrong, and whether something like the Prime Directive is at all a good idea.
Worth noting: the story contains psychological abuse on a major scale, although most of it has taken place before the story starts. I’d say that it’s a story about recovery, but to have a story about recovery,...

A New Short Story on Wattpad
I just posted half a short story, here, that belongs in the Normil Day universe. The next half goes up next week.
Like A Normil Day, this is superhero pastiche. I hope it’s got enough of a twist on it to be interesting, but unfortunately the real twist isn’t going to be posted until next week. This week, readers are just going to have to be content with revelations about the menacing nature of polka.

Rogue Ship Promotion
Well, I’m back. For a little while, all my energy was going towards family issues, but I think that’s winding down, so hopefully I should be more active. I am setting up a Kindle Countdown Deal to run on Rogue Ship. It’ll run from May 7th through May 14th, but the best price is going to be before May 10th. That’s when the book is on sale for ninety-nine cents.
You can find Rogue Ship here, on Amazon. It isn’t going to be on Smashwords for a few months because I can’t run Countdown Deals...

Rogue Ship up for pre-order
I’m finally releasing Rogue Ship on Amazon. I’ve decided to make it a paid book. Since I’m enrolled in the KDP select program, I can have a countdown sale in a month, which will lower the price significantly. So I’d advise people to buy it at the end of April.
I’ve hesitated a lot on this one and I’m still hesitating to some extent; the pre-order period is less to build up orders and more to give me a chance to unpublish it if I decide there’s something major wrong with it. But if I keep...

I did our second HeroKids session today
This time, it was a scenario that I came up with, part one in a (fairly simple) over-arching campaign. I think it went fairly well.
My boy was less hyper afterwards. Possibly that was because we immediately had another activity to go to: helping my mother bake my birthday cake. My daughter still cried a bit, mostly when the dice went against her. At one point, she sobbed, “I’m horrible at this game.” Her issues around failure—which I don’t know what to do about—don’t fit well with random...
