Road Rash

While writing the sequel to Life is Fair, I was hit by a case of writer's block. For weeks, I tried to get a pivotal chapter on paper. I knew Nora inside and out and could easily write her dialogue and how she'd react to his bombshell. But Vincent was still an elusive man. I knew he'd betrayed her five years earlier, and she'd left him, and for some unknown reason, he was back at her doorstep. But Read more of this blog post »

“It all comes down to love. We can make it through any hardship if we love someone and that someone loves us back. Unconditionally. Completely. All we need to thrive is one person who sees the beauty underneath the flaws we try so hard to hide.”

“I remember something I read months ago.It had to do with unfulfilled dreams and what happens to them. They turn into regrets and pain, and I know I've tried not to feel the pain. Eventually, I end up not getting out of bed the entire weekend simply because of the unfullfilled dreams of my misspent, unhappy childhood and the years I have wasted since leaving my parents' house. I think all those regrets and dreams end up robbing us of our lives. They suck the life force right out of us until we are nothing but shadows of our true potential. I think unfullfilled dreams are the cancecr and the tumors we die from. They infest us and in the end kill us slowly. I'm so tired of being paralyzed by my own misery, unable to move, unable to get up, to dust myself off and move on. I don't want to die a slow and miserable death from cancer.”
Marion Raby, Life Is Fair: a novel

“I love men. Rather, I love little parts of their bodies, not the perfect parts, but rather their odd features and their unique traits that make of them stand out of this cookie cutter world we live in. Throw a name at me, and I can instantly tell you which feature makes my heart go thumpedy-thump. Cropper Rowe: lucious, mocha brown-colored mole on the back of his neck. Derek: long yet narrow sideburns. Thorsten: thick nose, which he broke skiing. Milo: jet black hair, slicked back to reveal forehead and a small dimple. Vincent: lower jawline as it curves up to his ears and the way his stubble grows on it. Thayer: his waist and how he wears his jeans low enough to expose his appendectomy scar. And I love Eugene's eyes. Not that they are clear blue, but that they have a kind shape. It sounds cliché, but they are soft, and when I look into them, I feel I've known him forever. The sadness still lingers deep inside them, but he smiles a lot. Maybe I'm mistaken and life has been kind to him. Maybe he's the positive kind of fellow for whom smiling comes easily, despite it all.”
