I can't wait to hear what you think about MEET THE SKY, and I LOVE your question. I'm currently working on two fiction projects and toying around with one nonfiction idea on teaching writing.

One of the fiction projects is for middle grade readers and is about a bomb-sniffing beagle who makes a mistake at the airport that leaves her homeless, struggling with anxiety and PTSD, and searching for a new place in the world.

The other project is YA but is still in its early stages. It's about a girl named Hayes, whose life is turned upside down when her mom starts abusing the pain killers she was prescribed for a back injury. Their lives plummet into a downward spiral, and Hayes finds herself doubting everything she ever believed about herself and her relationship with her mom. Things go from bad to worse when she's forced to go live with her estranged grandfather. Eventually, they learn that they have more in common than they realized. This story is still evolving but looks like it will include themes of forgiveness, second chances, and the redeeming power of unconditional love. <3 (less)

“If Hitch were a person, he'd be Mother Theresa or Gandhi or someone who treated all living creatures with the respect they deserve. It's depressing how my dog is a better human being than I am.”
McCall Hoyle, The Thing with Feathers

“Some people see the liquid and think half full. Others only see the air and think half empty. Sometimes I get the sense Chatham sees it all, which is kind of terrifying. I don't know if I want him to see me--the real me.”
McCall Hoyle, The Thing with Feathers

“It's sad that my dog looks confused when my phone rings, like he's baffled by my blossoming social life.”
McCall Hoyle, The Thing with Feathers
