Copperhead gets a new face!

Abel Torres was not happy with the artistic depiction of himself on the initial cover of his book. So after considerable urging, he has announced in a statement through his publicity staff that he is grateful for a more accurate depiction of his manly features. He also likes that the cover more accurately suggests some of the scary things that happened in his young life.

Abel Torres begins telling his story on March 25, 2022. Amazon will carry both the eBook and paperback versions. And it is available for pre-order before that date.

This mixed-race young man had a difficult childhood but loving parents who taught him to sing and persevere. He knows his voice is his future. He never imagined it would bring him to the attention of the FBI and recruited to go undercover and foil a terrorist plot.

What was the spark that ignited your novel?

“I was bored with endless pundits and academics prognosticating about a possible dark future for America.  I wanted to make it real, on my terms, through fiction.

“This kind of story had to be physical, visceral, uncomfortable, exciting, sexual, emotional, disturbing and thought provoking, a tale that could be read from different levels, set forty years after the collapse of the middle ...

First rate YA sci fi series.

Landfall
This five book series reminded me of Ender’s Game with a touch of Star Trek. Earth is a dying planet and humanity heads into space to save the human race, harnessing an asteroid as its star ship. The teenage protagonist, Zax, is likeable, earnest and often fearless. The author, Jerry Aubin, is apparently a tech guy and it shows in his mastery of explaining new technology without letting it get in the way of a fast-paced story. This is serious sci fi with a few creatures but it’s also an engaging and compelling read with interesting characters, lots of plot twists and moral challenges. I enjoyed the entire series. Sometimes I’m not a fan of ending a book on a cliff hanger, which he does, but I was invested in the series so it really didn’t matter. In this future time, teenagers and adults actually speak in complete sentences which is unusual for a novel like this but perhaps heartening that someday people will be able to move beyond emojis and monosyllabic communication. I recommend it.

America’s future history.

Spartak tells his own story in this two book series. This future-history lets you ponder the world we are creating for our children while enjoying a “Swashbuckling thriller,” as one reviewer put it. And it is reassuring to know that there are still heroes, even in 2116.

new-header-2018-1 (1)A fascinating web site focused on speculative fiction and science fiction has featured Chronicles of Spartak: Freedom’s Hope. The site specializes in books with LGBTQ protagonists and it’s name is delicious: QueerSciFi.com

I am just using part of their logo in this post. Great colors and design with worlds beyond full of possibilities. The group seeks to promote new voices in literature and help serious writers, often shut out of the chaotic and high walled traditional publishing world, find...

Queer Sci Fi likes my novel.

A really unique site for lovers of speculative and science fiction is QueerSciFi.com. They have featured my second novel, Chronicle of Spartak: Freedom's Hope. As the web site suggests it favors novels with LGBTQ characters. In the 22nd century setting of Spartak, sexual orientation is a non-issue, even religious groups see it as part of the master plan. Fun to get this recognition.

This photo may or may not be authentic. It shows House Speaker Paul Ryan with a cutout of the late novelist Ayn Rand. The Speaker has been quoted as saying her best seller, Atlas Shrugged, is one of his favorites.

It is this relationship between a powerful politician and an author of fiction that inspired me to release my second novel in the Chronicles of Spartak series on January 16. Ryan is known for his antipathy to social programs, adoration of  tax cuts and deep belief in li...

Photo of a 22nd century action hero

Adobe Photoshop PDFSpartak has a new look–a photo rather than a drawing. He seems more real, contemplating the odds he faces to survive and triumph in the world we are creating for him. The state of American politics today makes his story more history than fiction. The re-designed cover is in preparation for the second book in the series, Chronicles of Spartak: Freedom’s Hope.
