Lillian White is a pseudonym, she is an independent author. She writes stories with a 'romantic edge' set in a bygone age, usually but not exclusively the Victorian era. Her work has been described as 'gritty' and 'realistic' and as having 'just the right amount of heat.' If you are looking for bodice-rippers or conventional characters and plotlines, look elsewhere. She currently has two books available on Amazon - The Mill Owner's Son and The Unschooled Heart. Honest reviews are always welcome.

What a great question! And what an easy and fun one for me personally to answer!

Without doubt my favourite fictional couple and the one that immediately sprang to mind upon answering your question is that of Marcus Didius Falco and Helena Justina, in the brilliant historical fictional crime serious written by Lindsey Davis.

If you haven't already guessed - or don't already know - it is set in Ancient Rome. Falco is a private investigator - something of a shady character in himself but extremely likeable and overall a decent character. I love his mate, Petro too!

Helena Justina is a lady of some standing, way out of Falco's league. If I remember rightly she doesn't take to him at first, but they end up deeply in love.

I adore this couple! Davis writes about them so realistically. They get totally exasperated with one another, they tease, ridicule and harass one another on a daily basis, but no way would anyone else get away with it. They are loving and protective of one another and, above all else, they have such respect for each other too, despite their vastly different roles and stations in life. They take the world and all comers on as a united front, and that includes a lot of Helena's family! It is all deliciously spiced with humour and wit. What I love most of all is that moments of intimacy are hinted at, then a veil drawn across for the sake of decency and the reader is left to guess the rest. Beautifully done. Quite a contradiction given that my own love scenes are far less subtle (though not explicit.)

Lindsey Davies is on my list of favourite authors. If you have never read any of her work, the first book in the Falco series 'The Silver Pigs' is a great place to start.

Thank you for your question - made my day!(less)

Speaking for myself, I don't view it as 'writer's block' as such, I simply think to myself 'Okay, I am not in the frame of mind to write today,' and I give myself a break. I think maybe it only becomes a problem if I stress over it too much. The more you worry, the harder it gets. Give yourself permission for some time off, if you can, relax and forget about it. It will come back to you - it always does.(less)

“Write like the whole world's reading..."

Lillian White

“She was shocked when she followed her aunt and cousin down into the city proper. The streets were crawling with people, all hurrying to and fro, mindless of one another. They brushed by with barely even a glance, stepping down into the busy roads between horse drawn buses and draymen’s carts with such confidence, seemingly oblivious that they could be run down at any moment. Children dodged in and out amongst them, ragamuffins all, some barefoot.”
