So many titles I’m excited about!

I just finished AND WE’RE OFF by Dana Schwartz. I’m currently reading Bill Moran’s poetry collection, OH GOD GET OUT GET OUT, and it’s blowing my mind. I’m also in the middle of Eric Puchner’s story collection, LAST DAY ON EARTH, and the third book in Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series.

This summer I’m also hoping to finish Harbors by Donald Quist, Mort by Terry Prachett, Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff, and Into Each Room We Enter without Knowing by Charif Shanahan.

Recommendations are always welcome! I try to read a little bit from every genre.(less)

I’m currently editing a screenplay that’s a dark comedy based on “Satan’s Monologue.”

I’m also writing a novel with Jo from “Jello Shots and Shopping Carts” and “Lit by Burning Bridges” as the protagonist. I’m looking forward to developing this one as an MFA student at the University of San Francisco this fall.(less)

Robert Penn Warren
“For West is where we all plan to go some day. It is where you go when the land gives out and the old-field pines encroach. It is where you go when you get the letter saying: Flee, all is discovered. It is where you go when you look down at the blade in your hand and the blood on it. It is where you go when you are told that you are a bubble on the tide of empire. It is where you go when you hear that thar's gold in them-thar hills. It is where you go to grow up with the country. It is where you go to spend your old age. Or it is just where you go.”
Robert Penn Warren, All the King's Men

John Fowles
“Greece is like a mirror. It makes you suffer. Then you learn.'
To live alone?'
To live. With what you are.”
John Fowles, The Magus

André Gide
“The reasons that drive me to write are many and the most important are the most secret, I think. Perhaps most of all this: to put something out of death's reach.”
André Gide

“Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth. But the world isn't perfect, and the law is incomplete. Equivalent Exchange doesn't encompass everything that goes on here, but I still choose to believe in its principle, that all things do come at a price, that there's an ebb and a flow, a cycle, that the pain we went through did have a reward, and that anyone who's determined and perseveres will get something of value in return, even if it's not what they expected. I don't think of Equivalent Exchange as a law of the world anymore. I think of it as a promise, between my brother and me. A promise that, someday, we'll see each other again.”
Hiromu Arakawa

Jalal ad-Din Muhammad ar-Rumi
“You are sitting here with us,
but you are also out walking in a field at dawn.

You are yourself the animal we hunt
when you come with us on the hunt.

You are in your body
like a plant is solid in the ground,
yet you are wind.

You are the diver's clothes
lying empty on the beach.
You are the fish.

In the ocean are many bright strands
and many dark strands like veins that are seen
when a wing is lifted up.

Your hidden self is blood in those,
those veins that are lute strings
that make ocean music,
not the sad edge of surf,
but the sound of no shore.”
Rumi, The Essential Rumi
