When I’m not hiking in the hills with my wife and dogs, I like to read. I usually read a couple of books a week, in all genres. A good novel with great characters is my favorite choice, but I love non-fiction, science fiction, romance, detective stories, biographies, and of course, self-help books.

I have to admit (full disclosure) that I have read all of the Louis L’Amour books, oh, maybe three or four times each, and there are over 150 of them. There’s something soothing about them. They’re manly but for a thinking man. And they do have a lot of wisdom in them. If you read Happy Here and Now you’ll see that Louis is quoted there.

I like to cook, and I like to share the process of cooking with Maria and with my friends if they want to join i

I'm writing a book in sequel form that will first show up on Kindle Vella, then probably as a regular book.
Where "Happy Here and Now" is a guidebook with discussions and steps and actions you can take to become happier, the sequel is more of a series of pointers which all point toward the happiness inside.
The name of the sequel is "Things You Can Do to be Happy."
It has chapters with titles like:
"What Dogs Teach Us About Death and Life'
"Bacon Jokes and Forgiveness"
"I Have Everything I Need" and
"Become Friends With Fear"
It has a lot more of a storytelling feel than "Happy Here and Now" but it all goes back to the same place. We can be happy in our lives. We can enjoy the journey we're on. We don't need to be afraid or stressed or sad.
Then it tells you, clearly, another step you can take.(less)

First, write regularly. If you want to write, you have to write. Sounds trite, but it's so true.
Second, don't worry about what you're writing about. Get started, let it out, and leave the editing for later.
Third, take a break and go for a walk. The ideas will come while you're not trying to think of them.
Fourth, do it because you like it. The whole thing gets easier when you're not overthinking it. Yes, the end result has to appeal to someone and it has to be readable and cogent, but that comes after you've poured out everything you can think of in one long stream of consciousness.(less)

An Imaginary Interview Part 3

A Famous Interviewer sits down with Matt Tracy to discuss his new book in part three of this series.

FI: And then there’s Darker Than the Sky. It’s a novel. Quite the departure from self-help.
MT: Yes and no. Happy Here and Now tells you what to do and how to start doing it. The Meaning of Life Coffee Shop sits down beside you and has a discussion with you. In Darker Than the Sky, we get to see the Read more of this blog post »

“I’ve come to a place where I embrace everything that happens to me. I’ve been practicing being thankful for whatever comes my way for so long that I have confidence that this experience will have meaning in my life too. It took me a bit of work to get here, but it sure makes things more fun and less frightening.” He just nodded and smiled and started the machine. That’s what I’m talking about when I mention peace of mind. Yes, I was worried, but I knew that I had the tools to handle the next thing that came, and to make something meaningful out of it. I knew I could find a place of contentment anywhere.”
