Is it any wonder that Gloria had spent so many hours of her childhood breaking into her parents’ library to learn her own history? If it weren’t for Gloria’s favorite activity when Frances, her childhood nurse from the time she was two until Frances retired shortly after she got her nursing license, was distracted she would never know about the Filipino woman, Leah Gatan, who had been her nurse from birth until Frances came into her life when Leah had to be at home with her own sons. She never would have learned the names her parents had wanted to give the multitude of children they no doubt had wanted and felt that they had to have.
