A personal message from Jeff:
I grew up in Lakeland, Florida with my mother, father and one brother. Both of my parents are Jewish from birth and were raised in families that had been of Jewish origin for as long as they remember. My father’s exposure to anti-Semitism left him very anti-religious. This led to our only attended temple on occasions and the spiritual teachings within the home being very limited. The pinnacle of my religious duty came on my thirteenth birthday when I had my Bar Mitzvah. From that point my life moved away from religion and became focused on soccer, sail boat racing, and just being a kid.

As with many of us, my early years held their fair share of betrayal, hurt and dysfunction. At the same time, these early years were also filled with a lot of family activities, laughter, hard work and many wonderful experiences. By the time I was graduating high school, my parents were divorcing and I was not responding very well emotionally to the dysfunction that had been brought into my life years earlier.

I married my first wife just out of high school. Neither of us were ready for what it takes to keep a marriage together and we quickly divorced. Within a few years, I met my second wife. Again, I married someone who had as many unresolved issues as me. After eight years and the bringing into the world of our two sons, this marriage also ended in divorce.

By this point in my life, I had become everything I had ever known about what a good husband should be. I worked hard, saved money, attempted to support my wife and children in the things they wanted to have and do. I had put myself through college while working full time, and was working as hard as I could possibly work in an effort to be everything my wife and children deserved. I simply didn’t know what else I could do to make a marriage work. I remember feeling so defeated, lost, and confused.

Within a year, Robyn and I met online. Long story short, we ended up meeting, fell in love, and within a few years got married. Robyn brought two young girls into my life and I am proud to call them my daughters. Needless to say, it didn’t take long for this marriage to end up heading in the same direction as the previous two. Within about eight years Robyn and I were both miserable.

It was about this time that we decided to start attending church because I thought it would be good for the kids. Within a few years I was baptized and had committed my life to the Lord. Over time I got involved in various ministries. I went to Bolivia, worked the Walk to Emmaus, Kairos prison, and REC jail ministries. My entire world began to flip upside down. This journey has led to an amazing transformation within our home.

Currently Robyn and I are working our way through the battle of stage four cancers in her pelvic area and back. In December 2015 she had a breast cancer metastases removed from her brain and underwent ten days of radiation. God has used this to deepen our relationship with Him, each other, bring healing of old wounds, and build an amazing testimony. More of our journey is spread throughout the pages of RE-FORMATION. But One Father

This week’s Torah portion is called Yitro which means “Jethro”. It comes from Exodus 18:1 through 20:23.

This Torah portion begins with the re-introduction of Jethro who is Moses’ father-in-law. He has come with Moses’ wife and two sons to meet them after hearing “all that the Lord had done for Moses and the people of Israel.”

Moses shares the details of the Exodus with Jethro and they rejoiced
