Meghan Palmer is a writer based in Knoxville, Tennessee.

She's inspired by her urban-Appalachian life, and she finds herself drawn to anything with quirk. She tries to keep her eyes open to find illumination in the everyday.

When I do have inspiration, I sometimes can't do anything about it; there's a diaper to be changed, a random disgusting artifact to be plucked from a little fist before it disappears into the mouth...but when I have writer's block, I can't easily employ all the best techniques, like meditation, taking a detour and writing about a completely different subject, taking a walk...unless I have a rare day all by myself. So I often have to walk away from writing altogether for a week, or even two weeks, to let my mind settle down. I ignore writing like a misbehaving imp until it comes to an agreement with my subconscious. It helps.(less)

You can type, or use your phone (I don't personally enjoy writing on my phone). You can use a pen and paper. BUT you also have to fail. You have to write a lot of bad stuff before (or even in between) the good stuff. The blood you pour out onto the ground is just as important as the battles you win. Failure teaches you how to win, in combat as in writing!(less)

On Autoimmune Disease and Writing

The summer always gets away from me. I mean to blog and post on social media, but my life feels too full to stop and do these things.

There are family vacations and summer camps, the comforting and somehow oppressive rhythm of hot, humid days stretched long and fat here in my forested valley.

Between parenting, freelancing and the constant rudder shifting in the current of my life, I don’t often h
