Lightless preview

Since Amazon’s Look Inside! feature doesn’t activate until the ebook and paperback are officially out, here’s the first part of the opening scene:

From the balcony of his prison, Fulsa watched the chariots streak through the sky.

At this distance it was impossible to distinguish one from another or guess who might be winning—it was impossible to see chariots at all. Only balls of light trailing across the darkness, gliding into accidental constellations as teams pulled ahead and fell behind...

Lightless cover reveal!

And the grand tradition of me forgetting to post news here continues! At least I’m consistent in my forgetfulness?

Anyway, remember Equus? Remember the silly mad lib I did out of my contribution, Lightless? I’m excited to announce that I’ve expanded the mad lib to the entire story and am self-publishing it!

…okay, not the mad lib part. The self-pub part, though, is true: I’m publishing Lightless as its own story! (Ooooooh, aaaaaah!) Don’t remember what it’s about? That’s okay; I have A Blurb:...

Happy Birthday, Fire!

Fire: Demons, Dragons, & Djinns is out today! Yaaaaaaay!

I’m really excited to read the other stories in this one! I wrote The Hatchling in 2016 and was editing it when Rhonda announced the Elements anthology, and while the story does have fire and dragons, it doesn’t have the powerful and…well, fiery vibe that I associate with the theme. It’s a much quieter, more emotional story…that also happens to include flaming trees.

To celebrate the release, here is a snippet from the opening scene:...

The Inkling is here!

…almost. It’s coming May 9th, but is available for Amazon preorder now! (Links to other ebook retailers coming soon!)

Because Amazon doesn’t yet have a “Look Inside!” preview available, I thought I’d share the opening pages here so you can get a feel for the story. Enjoy!

________

Yeta adjusted her uniform one last time before pushing the heavy shop door open and strolling in as though she weren’t about to rob the place.

Her stolen Academy robes did their job as always: the boy behind the c...

Inkling cover reveal!

It’s Monday! And you know what Mondays need? COVER REVEALS! And you know what I have?

A COVER REVEAL!

…for a story I’ve not mentioned here, because I am a card-carrying Failure At Blogging.

So to catch you all up, here is the blurb:

Magic was supposed to make stealing easier.

Ever since her parents’ deaths, Yeta has been stuck stealing in order to pay back their debt to the city’s most dangerous crime lord. Though she clings to her dream of one day attending the prestigious Academy, the c...

1Kfor1K Day returns!

(NB: This is an updated version of this post.)

Confession time! I don’t know how you writers do those 10K1Day things.

The most I’ve ever written in a day was about 5.5K, and that was during NaNo on Mid-Month Write-A-Thon Day. It felt GREAT, but I can’t imagine cranking out twice that many words in a day and preserving (what little remains of) my sanity.

Second confession time! I’m lazy.

I used to be better about working out. Even now that I live alone again and there’s no one around to hear m...

Equus is here!

It’s launch day! Happy Book Birthday to Equus!!

*Horsey dance*

To celebrate, I’m sharing one of the posts I wrote for the blog tour, which originally appeared over on Angie Rega’s blog. Check it out there, or read it below!

Four (and a Half) Fun Facts about Lightless

1. Almost all of the names in this story are based (loosely) on Latin and Greek words (#UsingMyDegree). The MC’s name, Fulsa, is a pseudo-Latin version of Greek “Phaethon” (you know, the guy who tries to drive the chariot of...

Equus Guest Post — FrankenHorse

Today on the Equus Blog Tour, please welcome Michael Leonberger.

FrankenHorse

When you run the stories of the Elephant Man and Jack the Ripper side by side, you get a tragic kind of tapestry that is gruesome on the side of the gentlemanly doctor, and gentle on the side of the freak show performer.

We’ll lay these stories out flat beside each other, like old leathery straps of skin, inked in the blood of history. We’ll suture them together now, and see the whole history of the world, staring...
