Shannon Macfarlane is proud to have grown up in Kansas where she spent countless hours on a porch swing with a glass of iced tea. Here she listened to her beloved Nana share memories of the punishing dust storms and the despair of the Great Depression. The Dust Prophet is as much a love letter to the state of Kansas, as it is a tribute to those who weathered those arduous years.

Shannon graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. She has two children, Sam and Mollie, and currently lives in Brandon, Florida where she makes documents accessible for the visually impaired in braille, audio and large print formats.
