It's a testament to William Goldman's writing, his imagination, his power that I actually thought it was somewhere I could get on a place to and go and visit. His description, his words... just... I moved to Dubai in 2008 with my job in advertising (I was writing, but it was reports, and extremely dull). My husbands job took us to Doha in 2011. I couldn't find work here and decided to focus on writing full time. I would say living in Qatar does cramp my freedom- it has taken away my financial independence, and my social life, so from that perspective it's not wonderful. But on the other hand, it's allowed me to follow the dream of writing, and devote my time to it completely. And maybe, the more I write, the more I'll be able to fix the lack of social life and independence! That's the plan, anyway... (less)
