That's right! I'm working on a new novel. The working title is Sun-Soaked Teeth, and it's a stand-alone fantasy with heavy cosmic horror and Western elements. Here's a simple pitch:

A wealthy old widower has died under mysterious circumstances, and the small towns of his thoroughly haunted desert valley are rife with gossip about which of his three daughters or his many friends might inherit.

Among those descending on the funeral are Syla, his estranged middle daughter and war veteran; Jules, a botanist on the hunt for fae botanical treasures; Ayton, an orphan to whom the old man paid special attention; and Mori, a contracted bodyguard who'd rather be anywhere else.

But the old man's death is not what it seems to be, everybody in the valley has secrets of their own, and there are darker things lurking just beyond the reach of the bright desert sun, waiting for their chance to strike.

It's a darker and more gnarly story, even moreso than Zeroth Law and its sequels, and far more so than A Slice of Mars . It's been an interesting and fun experience to write something once again so different, and to delve into difficult family dynamics in particular.

The first draft is complete, and I've got some beta readers starting to look at it. Depending on how much work it needs, it could be ready to release as early as this winter. I'm looking forward to polishing this up and sharing it with you all!
