On Disability Justice

How the church casts aside disabled folks from community and ways to do better.

Today’s post is an article I wrote for Christians for Social Action (CSA). You can read the edited version here. I have included the unedited version below.

The words from the apostle Thomas uttered days after the resurrection rest in infamy. His disbelief that Jesus had in fact returned to life—conquering death—left him understandably skeptical.

“Unless I see in his hands the holes from the nails, and put my finger...

Whole & Human Cover Reveal

Forty Meditations for Liberating Body and Spirit

It’s here and I think you’re gonna love it. The cover for my next book coming spring 2026. Here’s the brief synopsis. I will be posting pre-order details soon but wanted to get this out to the world first!

Awaken your senses to a life beyond survival

In an age of conflict, disparity, and uncertainty, do we really need more church practices built around self-denial, grief, suffering, penance, and fasting? For individuals and communities on the ma...

Deconstructing the Resurrection

This post explores ideas of theology and faith for our present age of destruction.

I had this entry lined up for Easter weekend but couldn’t get it past the finish line as it grew and grew. No worries, it’s still Easter season according to the church calendar!

I’ve been reflecting on a curious trend. Many of my dear friends, those who grew up in the church, served on staff, preached, wrote books, are now just DONE. Most responding to the daily nonsense conservative Christian brands are spewing o...

Keep Politics in the Church

Fact.

Christianity is a deeply political religion because Jesus was deeply political.

Fact.

What counts as ‘political’ changes over time and context.

At some point you’ve probably heard someone say, “Keep politics out of the church.” Perhaps you’ve said it! I often hear the claim in Christian circles, usually online. I find it disingenuous at best, and nefarious at worst. I believe there’s a better approach. One that many of you may already be living out. It’s simple: keep politics in the church...

Resistance is Worship – Lent Reflections

Welcome to the first Sunday of Lent. How are you doing?

In these mean streets where we’re all finding ways to survive and resist the onslaught of malformed systems starting with ableism/white supremacy. No small order. How are you doing?

“Not good,” is a solid reply.

Resistance requires we take inventory on our internal battery. Our body battery. Some call it becoming attuned to our bodies. Try it out. Daily, weekly, hourly, check in with yourself.

One Exercise: A body scan is one way. (If your ...

2025 Lent is for Resistance

Including one free resource to help plan your resistance.

Welcome to Ash Wednesday.

It wasn’t on purpose, but I wrote this entry on the 40th day following the presidential inauguration. Apropos to the Lent rituals that follow Christ’s 40-day desert temptation leading up to Easter. 40 days since inauguration. 40 days in the desert.

It’s odd and out of place for a Canadian to make note of a US presidential inauguration. At any other moment in history it wouldn’t fit. But in this moment, March 2025...

82 Years Ago Today, The Japanese Internment Began

On February 24th, 1942, the Canadian government followed America’s lead days prior, by issuing Order-in-Council P.C. 1486. The order provided the legal means to expel all Japanese Canadians residing within one hundred sixty kilometers of the Pacific coast. Thus began internment.

My grandpa was among the 22,000 Japanese folks, many born in Canada like my grandpa, uprooted from their homes and land. Families were separated. Some were sent to prison camps for free labour, others sent to farms in th...

Holding Hope Amidst Despair

It’s only been three-ish weeks since the White House transitioned power. A destructive wake has produced a deluge of round-the-clock designed chaos that will take months to years to assess. Crafted from the pages of the conservative political playbook (regardless of country), the purpose is to enrich the already wealthy, while overwhelming the hoi poloi with so many distractions any collective response is spread thin. It’s working. Americans are witnessing the real-time destruction of public inf...
