Thank you, Houston & Brazos Books!
Just got back from a wonderful visit to Houston and the Brazos Bookstore. Many thanks to Sarah and the staff at Brazos for their warm welcome, and to the fantastic audience I had at my reading. It is very heartening to find so many highly engaged readers, asking themselves (and me) hard questions about what the past has to teach us, and how we can apply those lessons to our lives today.
One of my greatest hopes for my book is that it spark discussion about some of the questions it raises, particularly as the same issues -- racism, opposition to political oppression, the state promulgation of fear-baed policies -- are being raised today.

Day after Pub Day
Hi all you Good Readers!!
I've never done a blog, but it seems like a good time to start one, as yesterday was the day The Good at Heart: A Novel was officially released. Yes, yesterday was "Pub Day." (Never heard the term "Pub Day" before, even when I spent two years in England -- you'd think it would be a term that they coined across the pond ...)
I had a wonderful "Pub Day," with a fantastic book event at Kramerbooks in Dupont Circle, DC. Thanks to everyone who came out to that reading!! You were a great, highly engaged audience and put me completely at ease. And equal thanks to the terrific staff at Kramerbooks for putting together a flawless event!
If you live in the DC area and missed the whole extravaganza, no worries -- I'm doing another reading at Barnes & Noble in Bethesda on March 18 at 1 p.m.
In the meantime, I'm heading out to Houston on Friday morning, to appear at Brazos Bookstore on Bissonet St. this Saturday night at 7 p.m. So if you're a Texas bookworm, or if you just happen to find yourself in Houston with nothing to do, come on out!!! I'd love to meet you.
