JD Jordan lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife, Ellie, and a whole bunch of kids. He’s a huge scifi nerd but, despite the contents of this novel, never purposefully sat down to watch or read a Western until the Green Man rode into his imagination. Now he can’t get enough of them.

Calamity is his first novel.

You can find sample chapters, a companion story, a guide to Jane's calamitous saddle slang, and more at o-jd.com.

My wife and I trade "I love you / I know" all the time, which suggests Leia-Han should be the answer. We even coded "I love you" for a long time by saying to each other, "you know what?" and responding, "Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars movie ever." But I'm not sure (and not just because Abrams showed how tragic their relationship turned out).

When I think of my favorite fiction, I'm shocked to realize that overt romance plays a very small part in most of them (The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Dune, Harry Potter, etc). And then I remember Ross and Rachel and how every one in my dorm burst into cheers when they got together and how I still think of them every time I hear "Wicked Game" and I kick myself for forgetting, even for a moment. More than Wesley and Buttercup, Ross and Rachel fought for it. And she even went all Return of the Jedi for him, bringing it back around to Leia-Han.

If we're including bromances, then the Sherlock-Watson coupling has run true in so many incarnations with the current Cumberbatch-Freeman version dominating. And Kirk-Spock, of course. I'm also partial to the JD-Turk bromance in Scrubs. Because, of course I am.(less)
