Your emotional state can affect your writing. Well, not really your writing, but your dispostion toward writing at that moment. If you sit down and stare at your screen, you will start writing. Just try it. Gradually, your anger, sadness, whatever, will begin to fade as you enter your writing world.
I think the biggest impediment to writing is something else. You want to write, you're in a good mood, you have ideas, you're sitting there. An hour later you're still sitting there.
The most likely cause for this is? You are trying to make your character do something he or she does not want to do. I'm sort of guessing here, but I have worked with a lot of writers and I have been working on my own writing for years, and I think I'm right about this. A person who is a control freak in real life probably will hit the wall called writer's block more often than anyone else.
If you suffer from writer's block, stop trying to write and think for a minute. What would your character naturally be doing right now if you weren't there? You don't have any more control over your characters and the events they will experience than you do over anything else.
You can give them life, but then you have to let them go and live it. If, as a writer, you consider yourself more of an observer than creator, you're going to have more luck.
I'd like to hear from some fellow writers. Do you think I'm right? If you heed this advice, let me know if it helped you!(less)

Let Them Eat Bread

It’s the famous inn at the Bread Loaf campus of Middlebury College. For those of you who have heard of the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, you’ll know why I am psyched to spend the next week and a half there. 10 days in Vermont. 10 days of workshops, lectures, readings, writing…I have to stop. I’m getting the vapors.

It is miles
