The Idealist's Journey

Picture Whether Mr. Smith or Elle Woods, cinema is replete with hopeful protagonists fighting for lost causes.
My article for Women Writers' Week on Roger Ebert.com about an archetype I think can be hopeful in this moment was just posted—you can read it here.

Surprise! I Wrote A Comic Book

Picture My comic book is finally available! If I haven’t talked with you about it before, surprise! I wrote a comic book!

Actually I wrote it many, many years ago—back when I was in late middle school and early high school. Back then, I got halfway through inking the final pages and stopped. Many years later, I returned to finish it at last.

It’s a superhero origin story about a girl who finds it easier to stand up for others than for herself. Back when I started this in middle school, I fell victim to one of the classic blunders: in my attempt to design a generic everygirl character, I subconsciously took myself as the default, so she accidentally ended up looking rather like me. Whoops!

Anyway, my middle school comic book is now available for digital download and print on demand through IndiePlanet if you or anyone you know might be interested in checking it out: https://www.indyplanet.com/angelslyme-1

Cheers,

Your Friendly Neighborhood Comic Book Artist

P.S. Oh and I should mention, the actual pages are much higher quality than the preview pages on the site—they would only accept very, very low resolution preview images.

Just made a charm bracelet for my WIP, Chainbreakers

Picture So around lockdown, for multiple reasons, I was finding writing stressful, so I started burning candles while I wrote. And I used this one candle while working on writing Chainbreakers, no idea where I got it, and as it burned down, I started finding things in it? each of these charms was embedded in the wax and freed as the candle melted.

I burned enough of the candle away that I don't think there are any more.

The extra cool part is that each of these thematically fits one of the 4 main characters of this series!
Sun: Warcrius
Tree: Aurelious
Black stone: Ambrosia
Heart stone: Elenore

For a while now I've been thinking about making them into a charm bracelet and finally got around to it.

Gamma readers?

Update on the new BlueJay book, The Drowned Mermaid--I received feedback from beta readers, revised, and now sent out a second draft to readers again. I guess they'd be gamma readers since I already did a round of beta readers? IDK, I'm sticking with it.

New book draft!

Belatedly realized that I never updated here that I have recently completed the first rough draft of a new BlueJay novel, currently titled The Drowned Mermaid! It is a standalone prequel to Trick or Retreat. I have added a page with a playlist for it and updated the pages under the BlueJay tab to reflect the current stories going on in that series. Each work can be read as a standalone.

The Drowned Mermaid is currently with beta readers while I take a break to come back to it fresh with their comments to work on a new draft. Meanwhile I'm continuing to query Trick or Retreat, the first standalone BlueJay book.

That's it for today, folks
