Update on book 4 in the Singed Series…
I am officially working on book 4! Unfortunately, I had to put it aside to take care of some personal matters and then I moved and then I had to acclimate and now, finally, I can dig in!
Since I’ve had this gap of time to think about the trajectory of this book, I decided to scrap the 60k+ word draft I had and take another path, one that would cause a lot more mayhem and force the characters out of their comfort zone. I combined books 4 & 5, so hopefully I’ve cut down on one installment, making this a 5 book series instead of 6 (fingers crossed).
I am starting from scratch, which means the book will take longer to publish, but I know I’m on the right path because the pieces of the story are coming together so beautifully. I am in love with this book and I’m not even halfway through!
I’m hoping to release in early 2026 and will announce a release date as soon as I have one.
Snippet of Book 4She sat in the oversized rattan chair, legs crossed, eyes closed. The warm, tropical breeze tugged at her loose hair and pale blue silk slip. The distant roar of the waves crashing on the shore put her into a hypnotic state. She drifted, mind filled with static, until an odd noise brought her back to her surroundings.
She peeked around the chair. The light she’d left on in the bathroom allowed her to see Roth shifting restlessly in bed. Only the fact that he’d been in a truly deep sleep allowed her to escape without waking him. She’d hoped he would get some rest, but the way his feet were kicking beneath the thin sheet and the way his head tossed from side to side told her he was in the throes of a nightmare.
“Roth?”
Even as she hurried over, the jerking motions of his body grew more frenzied and violent, as if he were fighting an invisible enemy or being held underwater.
“Roth!”
Her raised voice didn’t penetrate. Once at his side, she hesitated, worried he’d lash out at her, mistaking her for whoever he was battling in his dream. His skin gleamed with sweat, but when she realized he was struggling to breathe, she gripped his arm and rapped out his name.
At her touch, his eyes flew open. For a split second, she glimpsed wild terror before he focused on her. She let out a startled gasp as he surged up and crushed her against him. He buried his face in her chest, holding her so tight, this time it was she who struggled to breathe.
“Don’t leave me.”
Even though his voice was a rough, muffled rasp, she still heard him. She stared over his head at the painting of a woman lounging at the base of a waterfall, face kicked up to the sun, skin dewey from the mist.
His arms tightened even further, threatening to crack her ribs. “You hear me?”
His voice was part demand, part plea.
“You can’t leave me.”

Crime Lord Series Rebrand

I’ve been wanting to do this rebrand for years! The original NSFW covers were a little too explicit for some retailers who were hiding them. I went the discreet route to err on the safe side and it also makes it easier to personalize each cover using elements rather than models.
Each character/couple will have their own color. All Gavin and Lyla covers will be red, Carmen is pink and we’ll choose more colors as we go along.
I updated the ebook covers on all retailers and should have the rebranded paperbacks available in the next couple of weeks! For the first time, I’ll have a large paperback of the first 3 books combined. I can’t wait to see it! I’ll show off the new paperbacks on social media once I get the proofs.
Carmen Continuation…I am currently in contract for the Singed Series. I will return to the Crime Lord Series and complete Carmen’s story as soon as I am able!

2024 Recap
First of all, I wanted to thank you all for your support! Thank you to those who purchased my books, audiobooks, translations, subscribe to Patreon/Ream, and who recommended my stories to others. I wouldn’t be able to do this without each one of you contributing in your way, so thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Special shout out to those on Patreon & Ream for being so dedicated to my storytelling. For being there to bounce ideas off of, providing character names, and being so rock solid in your support that I have no time to doubt myself. Thank you for helping me mold Bitter Confessions into the book it’s become.
Writing in 2024
I published Bitter Confessions on September 30, 2024.
This book came out way later than anticipated, but the important thing is that I’m happy with the finished product. I’ve received more messages, emails, and comments about this book than any other, which means the story did its job!
I had planned to dive right into book 4, but I was so burnt out emotionally that I decided to switch to another project. During a re-read of Corrupt Idol (under my pen name, Dinah Harper) I found myself thinking, “Hey, I could write a quick prequel for this…”
What was supposed to be a little prequel has turned out to be longer than Corrupt Idol at 63k words. I just finished the first draft a couple of days ago and plan to publish it in late January. At the moment, it has no title. As soon as this prequel is released, I’ll be jumping into book 4 of the Singed Series, which has been percolating in the back of my mind. I think I needed some time away from the series to gain a better perspective of where I want to go moving forward.
Translations
The Singed Series came out in German, Italian, and French this year! It’s been such a blast seeing comments in other languages. I never imagined I would see my work translated. It’s surreal and thrilling! Shout out to my publisher for being so patient with me and putting my books in the hands of readers I wouldn’t have reached otherwise. For those waiting for the translation of Bitter Confessions, I’ll post release dates as soon as I have them!
RARE 2025Unfortunately, I’ve decided not to attend RARE London 2025. I’m so sorry for those who bought tickets in hopes they would see me there. I’m sure you’ll find many other amazing authors in attendance, but sadly, I had to bow out. I didn’t know I would release Bitter Confessions so late in the year, which set me back for my next deadline. I’m hoping to attend RARE in the future, but for now, I think it’s best I stay put and finish my work.
PersonalThis was an extremely tumultuous year for me. Maybe one of my worst. Last year, I moved three times and this year, once: Hawaii to the Pacific Northwest. It was a family emergency, and it threw my world into a tailspin.
The rewrites for Bitter Confessions took so long because what was happening in my personal life seeped into the story, bringing certain themes into focus and adding darker emotional undertones. At times, the only thing keeping me sane was Roth and Jasmine.
I’m fortunate that I have writing to funnel my emotions into. If I’m happy, enraged, frustrated, grieving—all of that is absorbed by the story. I don’t know how non-writers cope with it all. Thankfully, Bitter Confessions was a great match for my inner turmoil during this period of my life.
I learned a lot of hard lessons and through that process, found something I didn’t even realize I was missing: my sense of self. When everything you used to define yourself by is stripped away, you start questioning who you are. I’ve been working on that and can honestly say, I’m happier than I’ve been in… maybe ever?
This year I was forced to ask for help, which is so difficult for me since I’m hyper independent. I was forced to rely on strangers and put everything I thought I knew to the test and… I’m forever changed. Looking back at the challenges we handled, I’m amazed I’m standing at the end of the year with a smile. It would have been easier to fold. Thankfully, I have people in my life that wouldn’t let that happen.
I’ve moved 17 times in the past 16 years. I thought I was just restless, but thanks to my therapist, I’ve been digging down to some deeper issues I wasn’t even aware of, and it’s opened my eyes to so many things. Thankfully, I’m with my sister who has the same trauma that we’ve dealt with in totally different ways. We’ve been sorting through our issues, improving our relationship, and being there for one another when we need it most. It’s made us stronger and better people.
In 2025, I am determined to put down roots. If I stopped moving so much, who knows what I could actually do writing-wise? I still have to go back to Las Vegas to tie up loose ends, but I’ve decided to settle in the Pacific Northwest, which has been a healing haven for me during this time. I’ve met great people and love the PNW’s moody weather.
I feel like 2024 was a transformative year for me spiritually, emotionally, and professionally. I’ve tried so many things I never have before. I’m so excited to see what 2025 brings!
2025 ProjectionsPrequel release in January
Book 4 in Singed Series (write & release)
A break to care of business in Las Vegas. Come back to PNW to put down roots.
Write book 5 in the Singed Series.
I would love to release book 5 this year too, but we’ll see how everything falls into place. The Crime Lord Series is in the process of being rebranded and I would love to get my books into audio but it’s a slow and expensive process so… I’ll just do the best that I can.
ConclusionOverall, this was an extremely busy year for me personally and professionally. Business-wise, I marketed more than I ever have leading up to the release of Bitter Confessions. I learned how to make reels and joined TikTok (though I wouldn’t follow me there since I haven’t been on in months and probably won’t be posting there in future). I made a pop-up shop and sold signed paperbacks (I still have copies if you’re interested!). I also sold the e-book of Bitter Confessions directly, which I think will be instrumental moving forward since I am being blocked by a lot of retailers. I also joined Ream, a subscription platform similar to Patreon.
Personally, I realize I need to follow my intuition more and stop thinking so much of the future and enjoy where you are in the moment. I’ve also realized I’ve become far too serious in a lot of things and need to play instead of trying to be so rational all the time.
I really strayed out of my comfort zone while writing Bitter Confessions. I experimented with writing techniques, put myself through emotional hell, and let Roth and Jasmine take the story into territory that I personally would rather not go. With the prequel for Corrupt Idol, writing from a pre-teens perspective and going back to my religious, blue-collar roots was extremely uncomfortable… which is why I knew it was the right decision to go there.
I recently listened to Rick Rubin’s, The Creative Act, which is a great read for any creative. I also read Viki King’s, How to Write a Movie in 21 Days. I’m not planning on writing a screenplay, but I watched some interviews that she did and loved the way she talked about writing, so I read her book and got some great nuggets out of it.
During this short break after writing the prequel, I’ve been watching the TV show, His Dark Materials which is based on the series of the same name by Philip Pullman. This series was a favorite of mine as a kid. I was amazed at how many character’s names I recognized when I haven’t read the books since I was thirteen. It’s renewed my love of the fantasy genre that I grew up on. This does play a role in book 4 as well, so we’ll just chalk this up to research ;)
I’m rediscovering my joy in writing and creativity and I’m eager to wrap up the Singed Series and, when I can, the Crime Lord Series. I lost a lot of time sinking my energy into the wrong areas and almost quit completely. Thankfully, I’ve come full circle, back to what I’ve always loved. While I think social media is a great tool, I don’t think I will be on there often. The discourse, algorithms, and the addiction to checking on likes and comments is distracting and draining. I would rather focus on my stories, so that’s what I’m going to do. I’ll post monthly on my blog once I’m working on book 4 of the Singed Series to keep you all updated of my progress.
Once again, thank you all for your support and for helping me end 2024 on a high note. I can’t wait to see what 2025 brings!

Bitter Confessions banned on Amazon India

Since the release of Bitter Confessions on September 30, I’ve had readers in India telling me that the book wasn’t available on Amazon. I assumed there was some delay/glitch and filed two tickets within the past week and finally received this explanation on October 8:
“After investigation, we have found your book contains sexually explicit images or title language. Books with sexually explicit content will not surface in general product searches.”— Amazon Rep
This didn’t sound too bad. His explanation made it sound like it was still on the store. Thankfully, I decided not to take his word for it and tried to search for Bitter Confessions to give readers the link. It took me less than a minute to realize that the book still wasn’t available. I also spotted this:

I pressed for clarification that I am actually banned and this was their response:
“After consulting with our tech team I can confirm that since we found that it has Adult Content the book will not be available for purchase in India.”— Amazon Rep
I really don’t like how they handled this. First, they could have informed me that my book was blocked. Instead, I was informed by aggravated readers. Second, they tried to placate me that it was just shadow banned instead of admitting that it had never been released in this country and they had no intention of doing so.
I’ve been seeing a lot of horror stories about Amazon lately—of authors getting banned without explanation, preorders being canceled… all sorts of things. My incident is minor in comparison. I am grateful that it’s still available in other countries but I’m very aware that can change in an instant.
When I posted this on social media, other readers came forward to tell me that the paperbacks have been removed from the Amazon website in France as well. This is why I can't afford to be in Kindle Unlimited and am on every retailer I can be. So far, Bitter Heat has been banned from Barnes&Noble and now this is the first Amazon channel to ban another book in the series. Bitter Confessions is still available on every other retailer I could get it on: Apple, Google Play, Kobo... You can also find it on Eden Books or you can buy direct from me. Also, the full book + snippets of book 4 & Roth's book is posted on Ream Stories.
Ironically, in this book I talk about an author that Jasmine follows being blocked from retailers and having readers rally around her. I also briefly touch on censorship and how I believe art should be a safe place for us to explore the darker parts of our psyche instead of indulging in these things in real life. I also feel that books in particular are more heavily censored than movies and music (this could just be because this is my industry), but I’ve never heard of an artist being booted from Spotify or iTunes for what their song is about. I would think movies would be the most censored because visuals can be conveyed in a nanosecond vs books take time, concentration, and effort to process. Same with music videos but those seem to have no rules at all.
I know that Willow Winters channel was banned from YouTube because she posted her audiobooks for her readers to enjoy and YouTube apparently doesn’t allow anything with “sexual gratification.” Doesn’t that mean that every movie that contains a sex scene would also be included as having “sexual gratification” in it? And how many songs describe sexual acts and… OMG I can’t go on this tangent because it’ll go on forever. I really feel like romance in particular is being targeted but I haven’t heard of a horror writer being banned for having too many descriptive torture/murder scenes in their books… Make it make sense, please. The weirdest part about this is, my Crime Lord Series which has SA, violence, and murder is available everywhere and I’ve never had an issue, yet my Singed Series from the very start was banned from book 1.
Anyway, because of these recent events, I’m going to gradually be moving my paperbacks to IngramSpark for wider distribution so that Amazon doesn’t have the final say in whether my books end up in certain countries. I’m also committed to publishing wide so I’m not crippled when certain retailers deem that my work is unacceptable. I just wanted to raise awareness on this issue or if you aren’t able to find my books on certain retailers in future, please try another one.
Thank you to everyone willing to buy direct or through other sales channels. Huge shout out to those who support me through Patreon or Ream! Your contributions matter so much. Also, to everyone who leaves reviews and recommends my work to others—I love you from the bottom of my cold, dark heart. LMAO. I wouldn't be able to do this without your collective help so thank you, thank you!
Love,
Mia

Future of the Singed Series

Thank you to everyone who picked up a copy of Bitter Confessions and has recommended the series to a friend, made posts on social media, or left a review. If you haven't left a review, please do so, they help me out so much!
Future of the Singed SeriesI'm estimating that this will be a 6 book series, with Jasmine and Roth as the main couple for all of the books. The number of installments has changed with the evolution of Roth and Jasmine’s story, which has changed drastically from my initial small vision of who they were and their backgrounds. I actually thought Bitter Heat was going to be a standalone, but when I got to the last quarter of the story, I realized there was a lot more to tell. Same with book 2 and now book 3.
For sanity’s sake, I’m determined to fit my idea for their story into 3 more installments. I’m pretty sure each one is going to be long as hell so bear with me.
I’ve already started on book 4 and will be working on it throughout the holidays and doing monthly blog posts, letting you all know I’m alive and updating my progress. I hope to be offline for the most part.
I do plan on releasing an extra book from Roth's POV in the future, but that wouldn't be necessary for closure of the series. I've been writing his book alongside these first 3, switching to his perspective when I can't read him as Jasmine. There are also some things only he can show/tell.
This series has been so immersive and unlike anything else I've written. It's been extremely challenging and takes such an emotional toll, but has also been incredibly rewarding. The best thing in the world is to hear these characters have struck a chord with readers. My goal as a writer has not necessarily been to make the readers happy (I would write Harelquins otherwise), but to make them feel. I want the gamut of emotions: frustration, disgust, happiness, arousal, amusement, horror… I hope you’re entertained, at least for a little while. Know I’m hard at work on the next book and will have news of a release date as soon as I’ve completed it.
If you'd like to buy signed paperbacks, you can click here. I'll be processing orders throughout October. There's also an ongoing Goodreads paperback giveaway for Bitter Heat, click here to enter. Closes on October 15.
Thank you for your support of my work! It means the world to me.
