Mini Epilogue to The Rancher's Lady
This mini-epilogue was written for a flash fiction weekly contest. The limit is 250 words, which makes it fun, but also hard to get everything in. Enjoy!
Alyssa hurried down the path to Tsilly’s Rock, she was going to get in so much trouble for sneaking away, but she didn’t have any choice. Time was running out. The wedding was tomorrow. What if she had messed everything up?
She didn’t know if Tsilly would even take her to see her mommy, lake monsters were not at anyone’s beck and call. But she had to try, she couldn’t sleep last night she’d been so worried. Mommy had said she was sending daddy a new wife and Alyssa had been certain it was Miss Truehart. But what if she was wrong?
There it was Tsilly’s Rock, she climbed up and sat, and waited and waited, but Tsilly didn’t come. Tears started as she begged Tsilly to take her to see her mommy. Finally, exhausted, she laid down, she would just close her eyes for a minute.
Alyssa heard a splash and saw Tsilly rising out of the lake.
“Tsilly you came! Will you take me to mommy?”
“Come with me Alyssa,” Tsilly said in her mind.
Then she was spinning and whirling through time and space. She landed and there was mommy.
“Mommy, I’m so scared I messed everything up.” Alyssa ran into her mother’s arms.
“No, Alyssa, everything is as it should be, you need to trust me. You cannot come back to see me again. I love you, but I am your past.”
“I know. I won’t come back. I love you Mommy, have fun in heaven.”

FlashFiction
I entered a weekly contest of flash fiction and won honorable mention! It's a fun way to do something different.
The scene I submitted ties to the book being published in March called "Designs on Her". Which will be the second full length novel in the Lake Chelan series. It's about a jewelry designer and the police officer that helps her evacuate from her home as a forest fire threatens.
