February 2019 Listening List
Lots of great music this month.
The Heretics by Rotting Christ Since I write often about Rotting Christs music some people have told me that they find the name of the group offensive Sorry, but I dont give the bands their names. Also, I dont choose what I listen to by the lyrical content. If the lyrics are interesting or cover a topic Im interested in, Ill point that out, but rarely will I decide I like or dislike music based on the message it delivers. If I dont like the message, Ill

January 2019 Listening List
It wasnt until I sat down to write this list that I realized I had neglected to provide a list for December. So, I hope everyone had a nice Holiday and a Happy New Year! What I listened to over the holidays and the month of January was not Christmas music (which frankly drives me crazy) but an eclectic grouping of bands that were new to me. I also listened to some older music from some of my favorite bands that I had not heard yet. So here is the list.

Dark Parallels Episode 1: Black Mirror, Morphic Resonance, Theories of Everything and Zombie Cats
Episode 1 inthis new series of essays examining the dark links between physics, fiction, spirituality and pop culture.
Ill start this out with a statement that occurred to me while I was watching an episode of Black Mirror. We live in a simulated reality in which we are capable of remaking and restructuring our reality. We can influence our past by modifying it with our current beliefs, which via the process described in Rupert Sheldrakes theory of Morphic Resonance, changes the Morphic

November 2018 Listening List
This month I found myself revisiting a lot of my old favorites. I was in the car listening to the radio (something I rarely do) and Megadeths Countdown to Extinction starts playing and I get so into it that I immediately decide that I have to go back through my archives. So here is what I listened to this month.
Rust in Piece and Countdown to Extinction by Megadeath Two of my favorite albums by Megadeath. Holy WarsThe Punishment Due and Hangar 18 have awesome guitar work. Marty Friedman is

October 2018 Listening List
As this was the month of Halloween, I have some typical bands and albums I listen to, to get into the spirit of the holiday. I was also surprised by a new album from an old favorite that kept me entertained for a while, which consequently opened my ears to revisiting a band that I had not given the attention it deserved. With that said, here is the list.
Hellbilly Deluxe by Rob Zombie In my opinion this is the ultimate Halloween album. How can you go wrong with a name like Zombie and song

Metal Meditation: Threshold's Divinity
In this episode of Metal Meditation, Ill be dissecting the song Divinity, a bonus song on Thresholds album, March of Progress.
Writing this meditation was an interesting process that differed greatly from my usual method. I believe that the meaning of music and art is in the eye of the beholder (or the ear of the listener) and that each of us can walk away with a different message. I approached this meditation with two slightly different interpretations which resulted from a mistakein my

August 2018 Listening List
This month I finished the first drafts of what I think will ultimately be the first two books in the Quantum Mystics series. For those of you who know about my writing process, that means that I have filled a few notebooks with chicken scratch that I now have to decipher, type, and edit. It is only the beginning, but a strong beginning, and Im very excited by the story, characters and concepts. With that said, Ive continued to increase the length of my Quantum Mystics Playlist. Here is what I

July 2018 Listening List
I began working on a new project this month that I hope to turn into a book series called Quantum Mystics. As a result, I searched for a lot of music that embodied the chaotic, surreal themes of the scenes I was writing. Some were calming and dreamlike, others were action packed, and still others were weird and psychedelic. I started to create a playlist of songs pulled from the albums I listened to while writing the story. The bands and albums themselves dont differ much from my normal
