AI Rights For Writers: Real World Case Study

The Publishers of The Guerilla Filmmakers Handbooks series have approached us about AI licensing. Right now it feels like we need to decline their new addendum to the contract. I don’t think what they are asking, in principle, is unreasonable. I think they NEED to ask or be left behind. The basics are this. We agree to let them license the books for AI training and we get 20%

Timelapse Of Ealing Studios Redevelopment

For the last, what feels like two or three years, Ealing Studios has undergone a huge transformation. As you may know, I have been based at the studios since 1997 when we made Urban Ghost Story here, and I just never left.I have seen huge staff turnover, with the exception of the legendary Lorraine on reception, and now the final phase of site redevelopment in complete and everything feels shiny…

How Chris Jones’ Filmmaking Programmes helped bring my new documentary to the big screen by Nick Horrell

My first experience of Chris Jones at full speed was in a crowded training room at Ealing Studios and stunned to silence by his assertion: ‘You are all filmmakers. How Good Is AI At Giving Feedback On A Short Story?

First of all, let me state this is an experiment. I am not pushing AI. However, I do not want to get left behind, and I don’t want those in my creative communities to be left behind too. Let’s not descend into ideological finger pointing and anger – no matter which side we sit on. Or as I feel I am, pretty much in the middle. If you want my view on AI and the creative fields, you can read that on…

Why Do We Have Such An Emotionally Violent Reaction To AI As Creatives?

I have a lot to say about AI.And maybe I will start posting here about my thoughts. Maybe I won’t. I am tired of the division and inability to have a coherent conversation without shock and hysteria on all sides. But I do have one biggie to share.Earlier this year I proposed running a writers workshop where we explored the use of AI as a kind of muse, to help us get to draft one much faster.
