Why You Can Give Me a Bad Review

Reviewing is hard. Sometimes it is harder not reviewing.

A Very Good Month For Fog

There is a very old story among my people where a person is in the fog, walking to their destination, and a second person joins them. The two people begin a conversation (quiet of course) in the whiteness of the fog, and part ways without anyone knowing which of the people belongs to the right time and presence of the audience. The lesson is, "There are three steps between Heaven and Earth, and in the Thin Spaces, even less."

And no matter how much I tried to change this story, this is what came out: A short story that gives us a glimpse of the quiet mentor that taught Lestrade the gentleness that rests in true strength. I confess I didn't have the words (just the concept) until I read Peter Cullen's interview. He is known as the voice of Eyore, but he is the fondest of the role of Optimus Prime because his older brother, a Viet Nam vet, told him on the way to his interview as the voice for the TRANFORMERS: "Be strong enough to be gentle." That is an amazingly clear philosophy.

The Grape Harvest

The following is a short piece that wound up inside the coming-out-in-December-2016 publication, TEST OF THE PROFESSIONALS. You are reading the original form before I put it in the novel. I welcome you the chance to compare and critique the differences. This is October, Colin Jeavons' birthday month and the whole reason for the piece--a tribute to one of the most sociopathic Moriartys since George Zucco (whom I believe was subtly paid tribute by DC Comics as the character of "Boss" Zucco, the organized mafia gangster who paid for the murder of Dick Grayson's family.
Read it HERE.

Curious Clogs and Clever Contraptions: When Sherlock Holmes inspired a Crime

“If I had only been there!” he cried. “It is evidently a case of extraordinary interest, and one which presented immense opportunities to the scientific expert. That gravel page upon which I might have read so much has been long ere this smudged by the rain and defaced by the clogs of curious peasants. Oh, Dr. Mortimer, Dr. Mortimer, to think that you should not have called me in! You have indeed much to answer for.”

–Sherlock Holmes, THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES

Curious as to how reading Sherlock Holmes gave rise to a creative crime spree that was (historically speaking) paying homage to onan Doyle's love of history? See my original bog here, complete with photographs:
