Kraków is a beautiful city--how fantastic that you're living there!(less)

I always read poetry and loved it, so I thought a lot about my favorite poets (ee cummings, Sylvia Plath, Rainer Maria Rilke, Richard Siken) and reread their work as I drafted the book.

Using matzevot as building materials was unfortunately very common throughout Eastern and Central Europe after WW2. Just like in the book, the main square of Prague is indeed partially made from Jewish headstones.

I visited Prague for a week in 2017 with my sister. It’s a truly magical city.

Thank you! My next book, A WARNING ABOUT SWANS, is now out in the world. (less)

“You can destroy a person, Karolina, but destroying their story is far more difficult. No one is ever really lost as long as their story still exists.”
R.M. Romero, The Dollmaker of Krakow

“Even if I’m so old that my bones are as brittle as chalk, I’ll find you. Even if there is an ocean between us, I will find you,” he told her.”

“All your life you wait, and then it finally comes, and are you ready?”
Anthony Doerr, All the Light We Cannot See

Jane Yolen, Touch Magic: Fantasy, Faerie & Folklore in the Literature of Childhood

Madeleine L'Engle

“If there is no love in the world, we will make a new world, and we will give it walls, and we will furnish it with soft, red interiors, from the inside out, and give it a knocker that resonates like a diamond falling to a jeweller's felt so that we should never hear it. Love me, because love doesn't exist, and I have tried everything that does.”
