When she’s not writing stories or thinking up stories or reading other people’s stories, Nina likes to paint and collage pictures, get taken for long walks by her adorable dogs, and cook all things plant-based. She also does other things, like office work, but that’s the boring bit. She lives very happily in rural Cornwall, England with her family.

Hi John, Cornwall is increasingly a popular tourist destination, it seems to get busier every year!
The best time to visit it if you want it to yourself is between October and Easter (not inc. Christmas)
I'm not a big Daphne du Maurier reader, though I am intending to reread My Cousin Rachel before I watch the new film version; she's most strongly associated with the town of Fowey (pronounced 'Foy'), where she lived for many years. She famously based Manderley on a house in Menabilly, but the house can't be seen by the general public.
Jamaica Inn in Launceston, about an hour from Fowey, is another place identified with her. I've found the Inn a bit disappointing, but Fowey is very pretty to explore - but only outside of the tourist season!

HISTORICAL EVENTS

The year is 1815 – 1816. The story's heroine, Lady Serena Carlow, enjoys devouring the latest novels including Glenarvon, published anonymously, but immediately recognised as being the work of Lady Caroline Lamb. Glenarvon caused a sensation with its satirising of leading members of high society. Lady Caroline, already notorious for her affair with Byron, soon found herself e
