Trine Bronken is a business grad, history junkie, huge fan of investigative journalists, and author of THE BLOODY SERIES. Her first novel, THE BLOODY BUSINESS OF LUCK, was longlisted for Dundurn’s Award for Excellence in Canadian Crime Writing.

The recently released, THE BLOODY BACKHAND OF GOD, is also based on real-world crime with ample helpings of fiction whisked in. Hopefully this results in a story that entertains as well as informs.

Journalists are Bronken’s favorite characters as they so often encounter injustice, cover-ups, and powerful individuals and institutions yet can operate without the constraints of law enforcement.

Truth is stranger than fiction and I would bet there are some crazy tales hidden amongst those bushy branches. I've recently read a couple of M.J. Lee's excellent Jayne Sinclair genealogical mysteries and would highly recommend them.(less)

The Bloody Business of Luck is a fictionalized account of the personal and professional experiences I have had in different jobs in the public and private sectors. Like Kate, one of the leads in BBoL, I always believed honesty and putting forth your very best effort would allow you to get ahead. Never was that proven more wrong than when I began working for the government. Some of the situations that I was expected to rectify for our honorable elected officials were so outlandish that, to stay sane, I occasionally confided in an old mentor of mine over a coffee, (or a glass of wine, when pure nutdom reigned). I vividly remember him roaring with laughter and coffee shooting out of his nose, after I relayed a particularly spicy situation into which one highly regarded politician found himself due to his deceit and sense of entitlement. “You made that one up,” my friend yelled. Of course, I hadn’t, yet I was expected to get the politician out of the glue he found himself in, and often to take the blame.
Years later, purely as an exercise, I decided I’d do some plotting based on a few of the experiences I had had. My beta readers seemed to enjoy the story, and I learned a lot. I never intended to publish Bloody Business, but when pressured into it, I decided if one person told me they enjoyed it, it would all be worthwhile. So, I hope you have and, IF you have, look for Book Two (coming soon) in the continuing saga of Kate and Rhys. It’s about to get a whole lot bloodier!

“All right. I'm coming too. She topped up their glasses. This is not good. Definitely not good. But we need information. Worrying just clouds your judgment.”
