So I decided to generate the following rating system myself for all the other books I read.

No Star - I didn't or can't finish the book. It's fair to say nothing unless I've read every page of the book.

Three Stars - I finished the book but didn't exactly find it enjoyable. (Maybe some bad words occurred silently in my mind during the reading. But the fact that I made it through the book means it can't be that bad.)

Four Stars - I enjoyed reading it. But there are better books in the world which you can spend your time on.

Five Stars - Like Mr. Maugham said, if I hadn't read it, I would've been a "poorer" person.(less)

Cornell Woolrich
“But there are three things in this world you can’t shrug off: death, taxes – and a girl who loves you.”
Cornell Woolrich, The Ten Faces of Cornell Woolrich: An Inner Sanctum Collection of Novelettes and Short Stories

Franz Kafka
“Don't bend; don't water it down; don't try to make it logical; don't edit your own soul according to the fashion. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly.”
Franz Kafka

Sylvia Plath
“I don't really know,' I heard myself say. I felt a deep shock, hearing myself say that, because the minute I said it, I knew it was true. It sounded true, and I recognized it, the way you recognize some nondescript person that's been hanging around your door for ages and then suddenly comes up and introduces himself as your real father and looks exactly like you, so you know he really is your father, and the person you thought all your life was your father is a sham.”
Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar

Robert W. Service
“Be master of your petty annoyances and conserve your energies for the big, worthwhile things. It isn't the mountain ahead that wears you out - it's the grain of sand in your shoe.”
Robert Service
