But if I am being completely honest, the idea first took root after watching an anime called, Mermaid Forest. It's pretty dark and I loved the idea of these mermaids, that could be beautiful creatures one moment and morph into these horrific beings, of death, the next.
So, there you have it, Maori culture mixed with mermaids, two passions that evolved into a story.
