Mark Giaconia served 20 years in the US Army Special Forces and Retired in 2011. He was born and raised in eastern Connecticut. He holds a B.A. in English Lit, and an M.S. in Software Engineering. Mark served in Bosnia, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, and Iraq, and after his postwar intellectual evolution he spent his last 8 years in the Army as what might be the world’s first Active Duty Green Beret Computer Scientist. Mark holds two awards for valor from combat actions in Iraq and Kosovo (Bronze Star with “V” and an ARCOM with “V” respectively). First of all i love your book, it is a very different approach to military memoir and the "introspection" piece was especially interesting to me. Do you get criticized by fellow vets for some of the ways you challenged the status quo of warfare?

I have had some criticism, but not much. A few people said I made them feel like what they did in war was "pointless and counterproductive" ( a concept from my book), but most readers just thought that my concepts were eye opening, especially since they enjoyed the other aspects of the book.
