I was born on the east side of Detroit, Michigan in 1965. Music, writing, drawing and play-acting were my first pursuits in life and I still follow them to this day.
"Nobody Cares Who You Are - The Life and Times of Aceman, A Widespread Panic Roadie - Book I, The Search For His Muse" is the first of a five-book series documenting my life and time with the Athens, Ga.-based band Widespread Panic.
Book I covers my childhood in Detroit; a wild ride through my parents divorce, molestation, the volatile nature of the city and the eventual downfall of The Motor City. The book ends as I prepare for my hitchhiking odyssey across America, and up into Canada and down into Mexico. Through my odyssey I eventually meet the boys of Widespread Panic and spe I was born on the east side of Detroit, Michigan in 1965. Through my odyssey I eventually meet the boys of Widespread Panic and spend the next five years working with them as we rise from an obscure bar-band to one of the top grossing national acts in the country.
Books III through V cover my time with the band, working every day to be the best band we could possibly be. There were long days of travel, longer nights of rocking out to manic crowds and experiences I could not have had in any other way. The journey with the boys of Widespread Panic was magical and one that has fueled my artistic endeavors to this day.
I am currently working on Book VIII, "The Joker - A Kid From Austin," the story of Vincent William Everett, a kid who was a wild child and watched the rise of the Capital City firsthand. I have two other books completed, "Dime Store Tony - His Life In Detroit," the tale of Tony Grassano, a workingman who got caught up in the seedy underworld of the Detroit mafia as he tried to raise his family.
I also have about ten volumes of a science fiction story, "The Valley of Dreams," which tells the tale of the ultimate showdown between good and evil. I have produced more than 200 illustrations for the story, including numerous maps and images of all the main characters and situations that they become involved in.
As well as being an author, I am the bass player and singer for The Honey Sliders, a Detroit-influenced quartet of bass, guitar, drums and keys producing a mix of psychedelic, grunge and original rock and roll in the vein of Iggy and The Stooges, The MC5, Grand Funk Railroad, Sonic Youth and Nirvana. ...more

The mystery of life; why are we here, what is our purpose, and what does any of this mean? Those damn Greeks; they have pestered me my whole life.
Music; where does it come from, how are those simple chords and vibrations able to create such beauty, such longing of the heart, and how does something that looks so simple bring us such hope and wonderment?
Death; what does it mean, where do we go, and is there another step, another journey that we are all meant to follow?

Sometimes, by writing even when you don't feel that inspiration, can produce some magical moments. I can say this, there are times when I just have to stop, to give my brain, and body, a rest. I think taking breaks - days, weeks, even months if necessary - is as important as the writing itself. DO NOT burn yourself out. If that happens, you may never want to pick up a pen ever again. Avoid it at all costs.(less)
