Although I did not research this statistic, I think it’s probably a safe bet that most writers had other jobs before they decided to quit and pursue their dream. Or they worked at a paying job during the day and slipped in a few minutes here and there to work on a book that had been cooking in the back of their heads for months, years, or in my case, decades.

For me, it was a bit of a meandering path. I started out working for a small, local newspaper. After relocating with my family from that small town, I took a job with a Fortune 500 company that led to an extended career in corporate America.
