A. K. R. Scott, author of The Music Maker Series, writes clean YA fantasy with strong female characters, magical adventures, and a dash of romance. She spent her youth devouring books, and she honed her storytelling and character development performing live theater.
When she’s not writing, you can find her making music, guzzling coffee, and fussing over her #bookstagram account. She lives in South Carolina with her husband, two daughters, one rascally dog, and an ever-expanding library.

I'm currently working on "Perception," the second book in the Music Maker Series.

I'm excited to explore a different main character in book 2. We pick up right where "Inharmonic" left off, with Nadja's roommate, Helaine, taking center stage.

If all goes according to plan, this hefty novella will be out this summer!(less)

I think that's one of the worst misconceptions about creativity in general - that idea that you must "wait until the muse strikes." Don't get me wrong, it's great when it does. But if I waited on it, I'd never get anything accomplished.

I think the best way to get inspired is just to pay attention. Pay attention to the world around you - the people, places, situations. And ask why? and what-if? Having a curious nature and a thirst for knowledge definitely helps.

But if you're wondering how I get in the writing mindset, two words: pretzels & coffee. Combine that with a quiet house, and I'm ready to go!(less)

2018 Reading Challenge Update #2

Soooo….

To say that my 2018 reading challenge has suffered a slight hiccough would be an understatement. As of my last update, I had read 9 of 24 planned books. Four months later, that number sits at 14 of 24.

That’s right. In the past four months, I’ve read 5 books. Barely more than a book a month.

So what happened??

Let’s start at the beginning, and well, I liked the Bill and Ted’s gifs so
