What if the person who solves the murder isn't a detective but an ordinary man thrust into the role?

That's the idea behind Kent Fisher, the unconventional sleuth at the heart of my Downland Murder Mystery series. With a sharp eye for detail and a wry sense of humour, Kent is just the kind of character to keep you turning pages, whether you’re in the mood for a gripping mystery or a heart-warming twist.

With contemporary themes, quirky humour, and a dash of romance, the Downland Murder Mysteries offer a fresh, exciting twist on the classic whodunit.

Set in the picturesque South Downs, the Downland Murder Mysteries blend intricate plotting with vibrant character dynamics, offering more than just a typical whodunit. Expect thrilling twists, quir

The last time I suffered a block, I solved it by starting and writing a blog.

It was several years ago and I couldn’t find a way to solve the murder I’d created in my novel, No Accident. Despite several attempts and a lot of rewriting, I just couldn’t find a solution and had to put the novel to one side.

In hindsight, I think I was also struggling with my characters and the story, which is how the blogging came to my rescue. The blog related my experiences as an environmental health officer. For reasons of confidentiality, I couldn’t write the blog in my own name, so I used the main character from my novel, Kent Fisher, and created a fictional team around him. The blog focused on the funnier side of my work and soon evolved into a mini sitcom, filled with sharp characters and dialogue.

After a few years of writing the blog, I transferred the characters into No Accident and rewrote the entire novel, finding the clues and solving the crime.
Best of all, the book was published in 2016 and I turned Fisher’s Fables into an ebook, publishing it later the same year.(less)

I’ve always loved reading stories and getting to know new characters and settings, and I’m delighted I can now do the same for others.(less)

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and it won’t be the last.

The Long Game kept me intrigued and gripped from the opening pages to the climax. It’s a complex and emotional journey for D.I. Maggie Dent as the investigation involves severa
