Gina was born in the late 1950s to a mum who frequently abandoned her in a pram outside Woolworths and a dad who after two pints of beer could play a mean Boogie Woogie on the piano in the front room of their 3-bed semi on the Wirral. Being the less adventurous of three children, she remains there to this day - apart from a long weekend in Bognor Regis in 1982.

Her teenage years were filled with angst, a CSE in Arithmetic, raging pimples and Barry White. Marriage and motherhood ensued, followed by divorce in her early thirties and a desperate need for a career and some form of financial support for herself and her young daughter. Trundling a three-wheeled trike along a leafy path one wintry day, memories of her favourite author Enid Blyton,

Hi Robert,
My covers have always been designed by my Publishers. Urbane designed the first set for the Constable Mavis Upton series, with Bloodhound giving them a new look when they were relaunched in 2021. Bloodhound have also designed and produced the covers for the Winterbottom WI series too. I love the style, they like to ‘brand’ if they are a series of books which can really give an impact.

Urbane was my first Publisher from 2016, and then I signed with Bloodhound Books in 2021.

Gosh, now that’s a difficult one. When I read a book in my choice of genre I will always leave either a rating or a review. It’s not really a critical opinion, it’s just to say as a reader (not an author) I have really enjoyed it, as reviews are so valuable to authors.

I hate leaving negative reviews, books are subjective, not everyone will enjoy the same book, but a writer pours their heart and soul into their work, so I would be mortified if I hurt someone’s feelings or knocked their confidence. If I don’t enjoy a book, I just don’t leave a review or rating. I know how much negative reviews can impact on a writer, particularly if they lean more to being hurtful rather than constructive.

One quirky thing about me and reading is I can’t read books when I’m actually writing myself. I’m always terrified of inadvertently plagiarising a phrase from someone else’s work or becoming more invested in the book than I am in my own manuscript! 😬(less)

Readers, Bloggers and Reviewers are such a wonderfully supportive and helpful community, and I've 'met' so many lovely people within the book world since my first novel, Handcuffs, Truncheon and a Polyester Thong was published. (less)
