Good Gone Bad by Giana Darling

I’ve been trying to figure out what makes Giana Darling’s, Good Gone Bad such an amazing read. And it’s hard trying to pin it down to a single reason. It’s kind of like trying to determine what makes a puppy cute. You can’t just say it’s in the trusting eyes or the floppy ears or the excess skin it’s yet to grow into. It’s a combination of all three and then some.

Good Gone Bad is a lot like this. There’s so much to love. The hero and heroine are flawed yet honest. They’re the perfect combination of virtue and wantonness cleverly crafted to balance each other out. The rising tension is detailed, believable and well-paced. The action grows more complex and intense as the narrative progresses—it’s a definite page turner. The chemistry is…. Hot. Ablaze. Inferno-like. And it’s here where Giana comes into her own.

You see, writing sex scenes isn’t easy. It’s the ultimate juggling act. Trying to balance heat, heart and dialogue is hard (pun intended). It needs to stay true to the characters, their motivations, fears and desires. It needs to be reflective of where they’re at in the story and what their relationship represents at the time. It needs to be intoxicating, as far removed from a cheesy Hallmark card as humanly possible.

Giana Darling does this.

She writes with heat, with heart and with a true understanding of the complexities of the human experience.

So yeah, Good Gone Bad is hot AF. But it’s also more than that. It’s layered, multifaceted, and above all, beautifully written.

Medicine Man by Saffron A. Kent

Like any Saffron A. Kent novel, Medicine Man will challenge, confront, and move you. Her characters are complex, three-dimensional and flawed. They're beautifully broken. They're made up of hidden lies, shadowed vulnerabilities, and layer upon layer of half-truths.

I mean this in the best possible way.

After all, who wants to read about a heroine who's perfect? Who wants a hero that's got his life together? Where's the raw, animalistic, compulsion to break the rules in order to make new ones if there's nothing broken in the first place? Where's the risk? The reward? Exactly. And that's what Saffron does so well. She crafts highly original characters who own the page from the first word to the last.

So yeah, I loved it. I loved every minute of this slow burn romance.

Scandalous by Sybil Bartel

To be honest, I was hesitant in starting, Scandalous (The Alpha Bodyguard, #1). Not because I thought it wouldn’t live up to my expectations, but because I knew it would surpass them.

You see, Sybil Bartel knows how to craft alphas. Her heroes are a romance reader’s wet dream. They’re what women (and some men) conjure in their deepest, darkest fantasies. Bartel’s heroes are unapologetic, uncompromising, and so freaking hot, they need to come with some form of signage—a warning label will do.

So, when faced with Scandalous, I was like, “Sybil can’t pen a more alpha, alpha. It’s not possible. Wait, is it possible? Sweet baby Jesus, the woman’s going to kill me.”

And she did.

From the very first line, Falcon ‘Tank’ Gunther owned the narrative. Heck, he owned my ovaries. The dialogue, the imagery, the sex—holy Hades, the sex! Smokin’ hot doesn’t begin to describe it. And Audrina is the perfect heroine, the perfect blend of sass and chaos to bring a man like Tank to his knees.

I’m still recovering from this book. It’s going to take me a long time to recover from this mother of all book hangovers. Maybe Sybil Bartel needs to start a support group? You know, Alpha Addiction Anonymous or something? Lord knows, nothing but book #2 in the Alpha Bodyguard Series is going to help.

Reid Tate strides down the front steps of Rising Star like a god sent to test the virtue of every woman on Earth. I gasp, then try to pass it off as a sneeze and end up sounding as though I swallowed my own tongue.

He ambles over to his wagon two cars down. Testosterone oozes from his pores, leaving me so flustered I have no idea where to look. My chipped nail polish will have to do.

Tobias’s greeting is warm. Traitor. “Hey, man. What’s up?”

Reid moves over to where we stand. Next to a twelve-foot penis. Fuck my life.

Raising my chin, I watch, mesmerized, as those long, tattooed ngers push wavy blond hair behind his ears. My gaze travels the corded muscles of his forearms and biceps, marveling at the way his ink sparks to life with each movement. His tight black T-shirt stretches across broad shoulders, and when my eyes finally land on his face, I can’t stop staring at his lips. Full, plump, masterful lips. I still remember their taste.

Nope, not going there.

He doesn’t glance in my direction. Instead, Reid smirks at Tobias. “Broke my sticks.”

When I cross my arms, my breasts almost break the fitted V-neck shirt encasing them. The pulse at the base of Reid’s neck jumps, but other than that, he remains impassive. Despite feeling as wanted as a yeast infection, I try to match his disinterested expression.

“Do you need some more?” Tobias retrieves a new pair of hickory drumsticks from the back pocket of his jeans. “Here, take these. I’ve got spares in my car.”

After a pause, Reid nods, accepting the proffered gift. “Thanks, appreciate it.”

“No problem.”

Reid’s gaze takes in my van. Seconds later, his wolf-gray eyes slam into me. My heart stops, my knees question their purpose in life, and the roar of the ocean swells in my ears. I think I’m dying.

“Been thinkin’ about me, darlin’?”

Definitely dying.

Tobias throws his head back, laughing. Gritting my teeth,
I glare at my soon-to-be ex-best friend. With a nod in Tobias’s direction and no regard whatsoever for the mayhem he caused in my panties, Reid saunters back inside.

Unbelievable.

Unveiling Hope by Jeannine Allison

Jeannine Allison doesn’t disappoint. Ever. Her stories are the perfect balance of beautiful romance and hot as hell scenes—no mean feat, let me tell you. And her latest release, Unveiling Hope, (Unveiling #5), traverses the precarious line between sweet and sexy as though it’s the simplest thing in the world.

It’s not.

You see, many authors attempt to do this but fall short. They either litter their novels with so much sweetness you need a dental check up afterward, or so much sex, a fresh change of panties is in order. It’s beyond difficult to marry the two seamlessly, let alone build a well-crafted novel complete with three dimensional characters. But Allison does this, and she does it well. The relationship between Samantha and Derek is as complex as it is original, the plotline is slow-building and oh so engaging, and the reader is left exhaling a satisfied sigh when they finally reach the end.

Talent. That’s what Jeannine Allison has, a geometric tonne of literary talent. It’s a pleasure to read her books.
