Getting into the Habit

For me it's been tough getting into the daily blogging habit. I blog for Bob Vila and, hopefully soon, NickMom, but on a weekly basis for the most part. I admire people who really post every day, coming up with new ideas or crafts or insights. Anyone who'd like to share tips or their own routine would be more than welcome to do so. I'm going to look into starting a discussion on decorating books now. And tomorrow... another post!

A New Venture

So I've written about decorating and weddings and antiques and children... soon I will embark on a new venture: "Mommy humor" on NickMom.com. I used to draw cartoons of my friends in college, and have always sketched down parenting moments that seemed particularly funny or frustrating (or both), and soon those will appear on NickMom. I'll add a link when one goes up.

In terms of an old venture, I'd love to write another decorating book but haven't been able to pinpoint a topic that hasn't already been covered. I was thinking about a round-up of styles from around the world... a bit about what makes each distinct. Would love feedback, if anyone has any thoughts they'd like to share. Thanks!

Christmas Book Finally Out!

I'm so happy to announce that a story I wrote for my kids back in 2009 will be finally published next month by Sterling. It's called Christmas Eve with Mrs. Claus and it follows Mrs. Claus as she bakes on Christmas Eve. Lift-the-flaps let readers help her hunt for ingredients. The illustrations by Teri Weidner are so beautiful and really capture the magic of the holiday season.

I hope anyone who reads it will enjoy it and perhaps contact me with any questions or comments. I'm currently trying to hit the mark with another story for children, but find it so difficult to get the right mix of character and story line. I might think of a great character but can't envision the full arc of a story, or the other way around. Anyone working on their own projects and want to share experiences (or favorite books you read as a child and why you love them) I'd love to connect!
