As I've learned how to navigate the world of self publishing I'd felt pretty good about the covers I'd designed using the cover creator free service provided by createspace. There were limitations, the covers were not what they could be if I could have anything I wanted. I'm specifically thinking of Love's Destiny's cover. I wanted so badly to have dog tags lying on a table with a violin, but my limited graphic design skills and the fact that I could not find one existing image that included both dog tags and violins (imagine that) kept me from realizing that imagined cover. Nonetheless I was reasonably happy with what I did design. Then came the reviews for Cedar Hollow. Several reviews made comments like "despite the cover this was a really good book..." or "don't let the cover fool you, this was a wonderful read...", "one look at the cover and I was sure I wasn't going to like this book, but I was wrong...". Low and behold others were not as pleased with my covers as I had been. And despite the old adage people do in fact judge a book by it's cover. It was time to call in a professional. Through FB I found Kellie Dennis of Book Cover By Design. She worked with me tweaked and finding images that were beautiful and fitting and produced a fantastic new cover for Cedar Hollow. One that I can be very proud of! It was worth every penny (and not too many pennies either!).
