I know what I like about her....what did you like? Yes, she will be back with Pock and of course game warden Moz...and some new folks: Chan, 15 year old home-schooled trapper that moves in.....for one. In truth I was trying to be holded 'up (as they say up here) and work on the next Mystery In Maine, "Deadly Turn." Here's the first few lines... from Patton:

Alone on Eagle Ridge, I cried over a dying bat. Against all rabies advice, I pulled off my gloves to find the animal’s heart and my thumb stroked a tiny throb. At the last limp spasm, the bat’s eyes filmed over and I couldn’t stop crying.

Am hoping to get it out early in 2018! (less)

“Deadly Turn,” the next "Mystery in Maine” novel, returns Patton, her wayward dog Pock, and Moz, the illusive game warden, Hired to collect dead birds and bats at wind power sites, Patton stumbles over severed pieces of the wind industry’s whistle-blowing economist. Adopted by a teenage trapper who’s illegally raising eagles and fighting his own battles, she's drawn into another outlaw choice between the wild world and the law. Here's Patton starting her next adventure:

Alone on Eagle Ridge, I cried over a dying bat. Against all rabies advice, I pulled off my gloves to find the animal’s heart and my thumb stroked a tiny throb. At the last limp spasm, the bat’s eyes filmed over and I couldn’t stop crying.

It’s the Readers Who Count!

Ever have a moment when dream-destroying words sledgehammer you flat? I’m guessing most of us do.

Three years ago, I stumbled toward a New York City subway, reeling from a publisher’s verdict that “environmentally themed fiction is the kiss of death.”

“You think my book’s going to sound like Al Gore droning through a PowerPoint, or the wonky science guy who’s always last on the news?” I asked.

“Yup,”

Anne Lamott
“I try to write the books I would love to come upon, that are honest, concerned with real lives, human hearts, spiritual transformation, families, secrets, wonder, craziness—and that can make me laugh. When I am reading a book like this, I feel rich and profoundly relieved to be in the presence of someone who will share the truth with me, and throw the lights on a little, and I try to write these kinds of books. Books, for me, are medicine.”
Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Nora Ephron
“I try to write parts for women that are as complicated and interesting as women actually are."

Margaret Mead
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Margaret Mead

Franz Kafka
“Don't bend; don't water it down; don't try to make it logical; don't edit your own soul according to the fashion. Rather, follow your most intense obsessions mercilessly.”
Franz Kafka

Aldo Leopold
“We reached the old wolf in time to watch a fierce green fire dying in her eyes. I realized then, and have known ever since, that there was something new to me in those eyes – something known only to her and to the mountain. I was young then, and full of trigger-itch; I thought that because fewer wolves meant more deer, that no wolves would mean hunters’ paradise. But after seeing the green fire die, I sensed that neither the wolf nor the mountain agreed with such a view.”
Aldo Leopold
