I usually keep a book at home, and one at work. (I also write at home, and write at work). If I get stuck, I don't sweat it. I kick back and read a chapter or two. It relaxes me, and most often, I am ready to get back into the thick of writing.(less)

The Russian, Ben Coes – A Book Review

Ben Coes’ The Russian is the first in a new series featuring former Navy SEAL Rob Tacoma. This novel holds back no punches. It kicks off with a murder. A brutal murder. Then we step back some. We, the readers, get a chance to see what’s what, and count off the steps that led to […]

I hated giving Grisham just Two Stars, but this book deserves it. Let me explain as best I can, without spoilers . . .

The book is roughly 400 pages long. The first 170 pages or so is slow going. Character-building, and seemingly story-building. Backg

Based on the description, I thought this was going to be a bit boring.

Welp, I was wrong. It was classic Jack Ryan, Jr. Smaller list of characters all around (which I really liked -- I didn't need to creat a spreadsheet to keep everyone straight).

“Of course, I’m referring to the original. With Gene Wilder. Not the lame re-make with Depp. I like Depp. Don’t get me wrong. However, that rendition was totally spoiled by the single Umpa-Lumpa multiplied by however many in computer graphics. Awful.”
Phillip Tomasso III, Vaccination

“Every generation comes to a point where they claim the end of the world has got to be just around the corner. I was in my mid-thirties, certain and confident it was just a matter of time. Things were coming to a head: rising gas prices, increased backward leaps in racism, segregation, political angst, infringement on nearly every point of the Constitution by the president, and just an overall sense of angry people. It was hard not to read the graffiti on the walls around us. If you couldn’t see it, if you didn’t sense it, then I guess you were just a blind motherfucker living under some rock.”

“Why he was going to check on some child who more than likely was a zombie playing ball in an empty grocery store, was beyond me. It”
