Chris has served in ministry for over 43 years, including 30 years as a pastor and/or church planter in the United States and Canada. During the last 11 years he has served as a missionary for Converge Worldwide and Pinnacle Ministries in Singapore and Malaysia. He is also a seminary lecturer and chaplain. Chris has a B. S. from the University of Colorado in Boulder and an M. Div. and a Ph. D. from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth. He was an adjunct professor in Russia, Estonia, Israel, Jordan, Brazil, Canada, China, and the United States. He is beginning his adjunct teaching in the United States and will soon offer a class at Denver Seminary. Faith has been a pastor’s wife for almost 30 years, with an active ministry to children and women as a mentor and teacher. She also taught for 18 years in Christian and public schools. Faith has a B. S. in education from Baylor University. As a missionary, she has been mentoring large numbers of female students and the wives of male students, helping them learn healthy ways of coping with the stress of ministry. She has also team taught several counseling courses with Chris.

Although Chris and Faith travel extensively and have lived in many countries, they consider their permanent home in what they call paradise. They live in the beautiful mountains of Colorado at an elevation of over 10,000 feet. It is quite a change when they return home from climates that are almost the polar opposite. They are loving grandparents to Tyler and Jackson who live in nearby Denver with their daughter Rachel and Brent. Look for Dr. Creech’s next book coming early 2018 entitled: The Antidote: Biblical Answers to Toxic Relationships in Ministry.

Unsettling
As someone who has never aspired to be more than a faithful Christian, the case studies presented in Toxic Church were unsettling, to say the least. I would never have identified the local church as a potential hostile workplace. Why would members of a congregation be so destructive?
Dr. Creech does an excellent job laying it all out and explaining how to deal with such situations. More importantly, he discusses the measures that should be taken to prevent the destructive personalities from gaining control of church leadership in the first place. I have no idea what courses are taught in seminary, but there should be a required course that is built around this book. ...more
