Falling into a New Season

I’ve made a list and checked it twice…for all of the fall activities I want to squeeze in before the leaves are down and the snow flies.
Hiking is at the top of the list. I injured my knees years ago so my kind of hiking may not match yours, but I still manage to catch the colors. So far, I’ve been to Pratts Falls outside Syracuse and Castle Rock in the Adirondacks. Castle Rock was a little challenging, but I managed lunch at the top with a near-peak view of the changing leaves. I’m looking forward to more of a nature walk outside Speculator next. Do you have favorite easier trails in the Albany/Syracuse area to recommend?

Then there are the apple orchards. I’m up to three orchards and counting this year. Beek and Skiff outside Syracuse has hard cider flights, Indian Ladder Farms has a biergarten for lunch, and Lakeview Orchards has the best apple cider donuts. Rogers Orchard is next where they have Moscow Mules and decent Buffalo-style chicken wings. Obviously, we hit the orchards for things other than straight-up apple picking. I joke we go “adult” apple picking these days!

And then there’s Halloween. I’m not much of a Halloween person, but I wish I was. Do you love Halloween? I’d love to know what you enjoy about the holiday so I can join in. I will watch a few Halloween-themed movies: Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic, Beetlejuice, and maybe The Addams Family. I don’t “do” gross well, so I stick with the family movies. I did like Haunting of Hill House so I’ll give season two a try and maybe The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix.

Lastly is baking. I love, love, love to bake! Apple Fritters, apple crisp, pumpkin muffins, you name it, I’ll bake it. Fall dinner recipes are a favorite too. Any suggestions for an easy fall dinner? It seems I’m at the computer all day long during the week and easy dinner recipes are the best. If it’s a crockpot recipe, all the better!

If you have other fall activities you want to share, I’d love to hear them.

Enjoy the season!
