If I have writer's block then it's usually due to 1 of 3 things:

1. boredom with what I'm writing. In this case, I just stop writing that chapter and move on. It's easier to finish a boring chapter when it's the only thing delaying the release. Sometimes I'll just delete the boring chapter if it's not needed; after all, if it's boring for me to write, it's probably boring to read.
2. burn out. If I've been working too much on the book then I just step away from it for a few days. I'll go hiking or hang out with friends and then come back to the story refreshed and ready to go.
3. lack of detail in my outline. In this situation, I'll work on my outline to make it more detailed so that I know exactly where I'm going with a scene-by-scene breakdown. That also allows me to see if there's other issues holding me up (such as #1 - it's boring).(less)

I always wanted to be a published author but didn't think I fit the stereotypical image of a writer furiously typing away at their typewriter in their log cabin retreat. I allowed my own preconceptions of writers to intimidate me out of trying to be one!

I tried to write romance novels but between my full-time job with crazy hours and all my hobbies, I rarely found the time for the long writing sessions I had convinced myself I needed. I got tired of my excuses and committed to writing for just one hour per day 7 days a week. If I wanted to continue writing after finishing the hour then I could. In reality, I only wrote for 3-4 days a week but in just a few months, I had 45,000 words finished. To translate a French saying, 'Little by little, the bird builds its nest.' If writing long intimidates you, break the story up into smaller chunks and time commitments. (less)

Robert Browning
“Paracelsus

At times I almost dream
I too have spent a life the sages’ way,
And tread once more familiar paths. Perchance
I perished in an arrogant self-reliance
Ages ago; and in that act a prayer
For one more chance went up so earnest, so
Instinct with better light let in by death,
That life was blotted out — not so completely
But scattered wrecks enough of it remain,
Dim memories, as now, when once more seems
The goal in sight again.”
Robert Browning

Deepak Chopra
“Even when you think you have your life all mapped out, things happen that shape your destiny in ways you might never have imagined.”
Deepak Chopra

Deepak Chopra
“If you obsess over whether you are making the right decision, you are basically assuming that the universe will reward you for one thing and punish you for another.

The universe has no fixed agenda. Once you make any decision, it works around that decision. There is no right or wrong, only a series of possibilities that shift with each thought, feeling, and action that you experience.

If this sounds too mystical, refer again to the body. Every significant vital sign- body temperature, heart rate, oxygen consumption, hormone level, brain activity, and so on- alters the moment you decide to do anything… decisions are signals telling your body, mind, and environment to move in a certain direction.”
Deepak Chopra, The Book of Secrets: Unlocking the Hidden Dimensions of Your Life

Bertrand Russell
“Of all forms of caution, caution in love is perhaps the most fatal to true happiness.”
Bertrand Russell, The Conquest of Happiness

Bertrand Russell
“A happy life must be to a great extent a quiet life, for it is only in an atmosphere of quiet that true joy can live.”
Bertrand Russell, The Conquest of Happiness
