| I caught the film version of this story on Netflix last year, and was sufficiently intrigued to check out the book that inspired the film. It's different, of course. Whereas the film characters are all growed up, at least as much as you can be in you ...more | |

| A fun premise, and a light story of a misunderstanding that works thanks to just the right amount of backstory, secondary characters, subplot, and sexual tension. First in a series, and I'm keen to read the next. ...more | |

| This is the kind of fluffy YA, where the goal is a kiss, that I used to devour in large quantities decades ago. And it has elements of the zanier stuff found in heavier YAs like books from Paul Zindel. The concept of a character over-identifying with ...more | |

| Fun romance between an older couple (well, younger than me, but in their fifties). Great use of the Halifax, Nova Scotia setting, and the (eventual) mutual interest in Pickleball (the appeal of which still escapes me, though I understand it better no ...more | |

| Delicious blend of traditional romance tropes (the swashbuckling pirate who's a Duke in disguise) with (historically accurate but often missing) sensitivities and diversity (she's a pirate too, more vicious than him, a Lady in disguise, and bi), set ...more | |

| The single point of view, the time span, the plot elements of unfaithfulness, and the narrative focus on infertility leave me thinking this is more women's fiction than romance. The Christmas Eve prologue prayer, a flash-forward, set up an expectatio ...more | |

| Quite a romp. The main characters, madam and hitman, are more fantasies of sex and power than real people, with redeeming qualities that make them appealing against all odds. Framed and on the run, the story focus is their relationship, so genericall ...more | |

| Glancing at the reviews, it seems many readers come to this from Armstrong's urban fantasy books, but I'm starting fresh here, with a thriller in a very rural setting - so isolated that there is the same world-building as a fantasy novel, and the sam ...more | |

| Scandalous as promised, and many romance tropes given a fresh take. Can't say I loved all the characters, and in places the backstory/motivation seemed lacking - but better too little than too much. Fast paced, several fun scenes. ...more | |

“The weather was dazzling- a sunny Nova Scotia May day. We walked through the huge iron gates into the Public Gardens and ate our sandwiches and apples beside the duck pond. I kicked off my rubber boots and wiggled my toes in the sun as I watched the swans and yellow ducklings. The Gardens were immense, full of massive and intricate flowerbeds, winding paths, and strange exotic trees. There were statues, a splashing fountain, an elaborate round bandstand, and a little river with a curved bridge over it. Lovers strolled arm and arm, and children shrieked with laughter as they chased the pigeons.”

“I was simply transfixed by the sheer size of the ship, all white and black and gold, regal and yet ostentatious, settled firmly at the dock with an attitude of blatant superiority.”
