Indie Author Problems

What's up everyone!?

Just wanted to start a topic discussion about the whole process of WRITING!
I jumped into this thing because I had a story I wanted to get out there, with no other avenue to do so except to just go ahead and write it!
The original intention was to have my story written as a script for a movie, but when "real-life" got in the way, it didn't seem feasible.
Writing it as a novel seemed more feasible, but these days it seems that everyone and their mother is saying: I'm an author, I can write a book! Right!?
The internet has made it easier in some ways, but harder in other aspects!
The traditional way of getting a manuscript published seems impossible without an agent, and even getting an agent, it appears, is just as grueling and hard to obtain...having to submit a query and all the same steps, basically, to have one consider you...

SO,
where do we turn? How do we push our work ahead of any other would be writer, because I guess the looming question is:

"WHO CARES!?" or that's at least what I've been facing...

So you wrote a book...SO WHAT!? So did thousands of other people. The challenges I've been facing are just that. While my friends and peers have been the most supportive, that only goes so far am I right?
I've been finding that the general public, or other people in the community really don't care if we've written a book. Even other authors don't really care...
It all seems very competitive and almost cutthroat!

So far, here on Goodreads, I've found the most promising support from other creative types of people like all of you, so I'm hoping to be proven wrong by you.
Help guys!

How do we succeed in this thing!?

This is my book:
