How do you deal with writer’s block?

Elizabeth Hollows Usually, I try to write through it. I might get up and make a cup of tea, change my surroundings/location or even play a quick game on my phone or com…moreUsually, I try to write through it. I might get up and make a cup of tea, change my surroundings/location or even play a quick game on my phone or computer. I do something short but different to make my brain switch tracks before I sit back down to the problem again. Persistence can break that wall and get you going once more.

But, I admit, it doesn't always work and forcing it can just make your writing come out clunky or make you feel dissatisfied. Whenever that happens I get up and watch a bit of TV, put away my laundry, go and talk to someone. I give myself a break and a chance to let my mind and body relax. It might mean the roadblocks clear, it might mean I work on a different story for a while.

I also cannot stress the importance of talking to someone about your stall. Their job might just be to make eye-contact and nod thoughtfully, but actually putting your issue into words can go a long way towards getting you to solve it.(less)
