Megan Barnhard has been writing since before she could reach the pencil sharpener. After completing a degree in philosophy, trying her hand at Attic Greek, and learning everything there is to know about spelling (and then unfortunately forgetting it), Megan settled into a career as a writing coach in 2006. Since then, she's been helping writers discover their voices and tell their stories. She's passionate about making the writing process less mysterious and more fun for creatives and entrepreneurs. When she's not coaching writers or writing books about writing, you can find Megan reading books about how the mind works, cooking, or playing "string" with her kitty, Bradbury, who may or may not be the reincarnation of the famous author. ...more

Megan Barnhard My WIP is currently in the very early planning stages, but it will be another in the Writing Recipe series: Recipe for Drafting.

I like to create mission statements for my books so that I can keep my motivation front and center as I write.

If my motivation is clear and I still feel blocked, it means I need more information. I use "stepping stone" outlining or one of my favorite brainstorming techniques -- especially interviewing myself with voice-to-text software. Pretty much, I use all of the strategies in Recipe for Outlining to beat writer's block. ;) These techniques made it into the book because they work!(less)

“This is when people can give up. The pain of looking inwards, of realising that they must be responsible for making it better, and for making changes, is too much.”
Marissa Walter, Break Up and Shine: Your Divorce Can Be The Making Of You

“Gratitude doesn’t make challenges go away but you learn to see them as a reminder to get you back on your path in life, by choosing hope over fear; that, in itself, is something to be thankful for.”
Marissa Walter, Break Up and Shine: Your Divorce Can Be The Making Of You

Portia Nelson
“I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
But, it isn't my fault.
It still takes me a long time to get out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in. It's a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault. I get out immediately.

walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

I walk down another street.”
Portia Nelson, There's a Hole in My Sidewalk: The Romance of Self-Discovery

“There is no rulebook in this lifetime, but rather a book of blank pages of which you are the author.”
Sanctuary Publishing, Caged No More: Wisdom From Women Who Broke Free From Societal Constraints
