I also try doing a three minute silent mediation and then write without stopping, for 15 minutes. It's amazing what 15 minutes can generate if you only tell yourself you have to write for 15 minutes! This is an exercise I do with students at the beginning of every class.

Long term, if I'm stuck in the middle of a long project, then I take a break from it and work on something short. Or vice versa.(less)

Or "you understand!" My memoir started as an essay about my father, and when people said, "I felt like you were writing about MY father," that was the best response of all. I love giving people more access to their own lives and experiences through reading about mine.(less)

As the cover blurb says, “Witty and utterly enchanting.”

I know we’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but this is one of the best covers I’ve seen. The young woman in the bikini is in color, and the man leering at her is in black and white.
