StO3 Cover (and new title!) Reveal!

Happy Friday, Aledan Merfolk! We’re six months out from the publication of StO3, which means it’s cover reveal day! And in the case of book three, it’s also new title reveal day! Unfortunately, when I had my cover artist – the amazing Cait Greer – send me the cover with the original title of Breathe The Air…I hated it in the StO font. Breathe was far too long, and the A of air was so big it took up too much of the book. I tried a few titles before I landed on the perfect one, and Cait did an amazing job again with the background colors and seashells.

But first, how about a description?

(SPOILERS FOR BOOKS ONE AND TWO!!)

((I’m not kidding! Don’t read any further if you haven’t finished the first two books!!)

If you’ve come this far, you probably want to strangle me for the ending of book two, so without further ado, book three:

SEEK THE SHORE

Princess Erie has done the impossible: she’s transformed from a mermaid into a human. And no one, human or merfolk, knows how or why. It’s better than being dead in a net, though, and now she’s able to see the human world with her own eyes, instead of through a laptop screen on the other side of a fishtank wall. And there’s so much to see on this side of the shore.

She meets mermaid cosplayers, plays a real game of tag with the children who came to her show at Oceanica, and learns how to eat fish the human way (no biting the heads off). And the best part: her human boyfriend Finn refuses to leave her side. He no longer pulls away from her, or longs for the surface and his life as a human.

But below the surface, trouble brews as the King demands his daughter’s return, and her incompetent brother tries his best to land a blow the humans can’t ignore. As Erie delights in the human world and all it’s wonders, the merfolk grow more desperate to “save” her, resulting in an attack on the shore that gets more merfolk killed than humans.

Erie comes up with a plan to humanize her people and stop the bloodshed. But when the humans brazenly attack the Seadom, she must chose which side of the shore she’s on: human, or merfolk?

Seek The Shore cover art by Cait Greer

Isn’t it gorgeous?? And if you head over to the main page you can see all three books in a row. They look amazing together!

You can read early chapters of Seek The Shore on my Ream for free (or subscribe to read all the early chapters as I write them!)

You can also preorder the e-book directly from me right now! It’ll be delivered by Bookfunnel on publication day, and you can read it on ANY e-reader you like!

You can also find it for preorder on your favorite retailers. I’ll be updating my Books page with the links as the links become available.

Want a print book? Those will be available for pre-order early next year! I’ll update you again when they’re ready to go 🙂

Have a great weekend, Merfolk! And happy reading!

Art! Merch! And Plans…

Happy Friday, Aledan Merfolk! I’ve been a busy little bee for the past few months, but I wanted to share some fun stuff with you!

First, you might see a new tab on the website. I spent a couple weeks optimizing the site and building a new storefront to make it easy to find all (two) of my books in one place, in each format they’re available. Now it’s easier than ever to buy the ebook or print version (or both!) of Speak The Ocean and See The Depths (and all future books that come out!). I tried running ads to the store for a couple weeks, but that was a flop, so we’re going to do this the organic way: Tell Your Friends! Buy My Books! Direct From Me!

This is why the organic way sucks 😛 It feels very pushy.

Next up: art! I took some of the money I made on the release of See The Depths and commissioned a couple of artists! Since Erie isn’t your normal half-human mermaid, it’s been very hard to find artwork. But I found a few artists who I love and asked them to draw my girl.

a drawing of a green mermaid with magenta hair, fins, and eyes. She has sharp teeth and nails, and her hands are pressed against the glass of the tank she's trapped in. There are streaks of light coming through the glass.Erie, by Akuristaa drawing of a mermaid hand rising from the water. The middle finger is up, with an extra sparkle at the tip of the claw.Mermaid Middle Finger by Nick

Aren’t they great? And the middle finger is now a sticker you receive for free with the purchase of a signed book!

The middle finger has also become merch at Scents Stories and Surprises! You can buy a sticker, a pin, or a keychain of the middle finger! And that’s not all, because, as the “scents” in the name would suggest: StO has an official CANDLE!! WITH ARTWORK OF FINN AND ERIE!!

a drawing of Finn and Erie. Finn has a black wetsuit on with black hair just long enough to curl a little bit. Erie is a teal mermaid with magenta hair and fins. She has her tail wrapped around his legs, and he looks surprised.Finn and Erie by Azukiarts

Aren’t they perfect? And the candle smells amazing too. It has notes of citrus, palm, amber, sea salt, and dark musk. And in October there will be another candle releasing for See The Depths, with new artwork of Finn and Erie! (and if you’ve read See The Depths, you’ll be happy to know the artwork will be from the Vents ;))

Also in October? The cover reveal for Book Three: Breathe The Air!

Speaking of Breathe The Air, we’re up to Chapter 8 on Ream! You can read the whole book before anyone else for a subscription of only $5 a month.

And now back to drafting BtA, so I can continue to put out chapters every week 😉 Have a great weekend, everyone!

StO3 First Chapter! (and alpha readers needed!)

Happy Friday, Aledan Merfolk!

I know you all hate me for the ending of See The Depths *evil grin* but I come bearing gifts! Namely, the first chapter of StO3: Breathe the Air! (not the actual cover, just a quick mockup)

I also have an opportunity for a handful of people to become alpha readers of StO3. What’s an alpha reader? It’s someone who reads the earliest, messiest, first draft of a book. Basically, you’ll be a cheerleader, reading the rough draft chapters as I finish them and telling me to keep going. You’ll get a free subscription to my Ream for the duration of the rough draft, and a special area to talk about the book with the other alpha readers without spoiling it for everyone else. As well as the satisfaction of helping me get it done on time!

I’ll admit, See The Depths was really difficult for me to finish, because while I had a few alpha readers for StO that kept me going, I wrote StO2 basically in the dark by myself. Yes, I had readers that wanted that next book (some of them have been waiting since 2019!), but I was too embarrassed by the rough draft to send it to any alpha readers. It’s hard to be that vulnerable once you’ve put out a finished product into the world. And because of our move across the country, my usual alpha readers were no longer available to me (I gave first draft chapters of StO to my coworkers in the lab way back when, but now I work from home on the other side of the country, so I wasn’t sure how to do that anymore).

Enter Ream, and their ability to offer chapters and posts to a specific group of people at a specific time! I’ve already been using it as a subscription service for early reads of StO2, and now I plan to do the same with StO3, while offering the alpha group the earliest, messiest reads! Subscribers will still get free copies of the final book at the end, and will get to read an early version of the book, but alpha readers will get to read the down and dirty (and not always complete or in order) chapters as I write them. For Free. Because I guarantee this version is not going to be worth any money XD

Still interested? You can fill out the Alpha Reader Form here. I’ll be choosing my alpha readers on May 31st, so you only have a week to fill out the form. I hope to meet you at the surface to Breathe The Air!

Happy MerMay!

Happy Mermay, Aledan Merfolk!

I’ve been a super busy Mer lately, between the release of See The Depths last month, the Mermaid Festival, and gearing up for MerMay, I’ve barely had time to enjoy the nice weather we’re finally having.

(just kidding, I’ve totally been gardening every weekend)

But I really have been busy gearing up for MerMay celebrations. And boy do I have a lot in store for you! I’m collaborating with a bunch of other mermaid authors to bring you a whole selection of amazing mermaid books! With Giveaways! And next week I’ll be showing off my very first artwork commission from StO! If you’ve read the book, I think you’ll get a kick out of the scene.

If you’re local, I’ve set up a few signings at area bookstores as well! You can either buy a book there, or bring one you already own to be signed 🙂

Author Collaborations and Giveaways!

I’ve joined up with some other mermaid authors to bring you all the MerMay reading you could possibly want:

If you like spicy books, find all your heat here: MerMay 2025 (I have it on good authority that Sunset by the Sea is HOT *fans self*)

If you’re looking for a nice mix of spicy and not, you can find mermaids, sirens, and even pirates here: MerMay Extravaganza (definitely check out The Mer King for a less spicy mermaid story)

And don’t forget to keep an eye on my Instagram for both print and ebook Giveaways!

Local Signings!

If you’re in the Puget Sound area this month, check out my favorite local bookstores for a signing:

Kingfisher Bookstore: May 8th, 5:30pmWatermark Book Company: May 17th, 12pmThe Book Rack: May 31st, 2pm

Book Three!

Last but not least, Book Three (Breathe The Air) will start posting on my Ream next week! One chapter a week, but they’ll be rough draft chapters. Don’t expect a polished manuscript! Still, you can not only read the final book before anyone else, you can comment on the chapters and help inform where the story goes! Subscribers also get first dibs on naming characters, and a shoutout in the acknowledgements of the book 🙂

And if you missed the announcement on social media, The Nameless Warrior (or as you might know it, Fie Eoin) is up on Ream to read for free.

Have a great MerMay, everyone! Follow me on Threads or Instagram for all the daily excitement, art shares,

It’s Time To SEE THE DEPTHS!

Happy Book Birthday to SEE THE DEPTHS!!

If you haven’t yet, you can buy your print and ebook copies direct from me!

I cannot tell you how much today means to me. This is the first sequel I’ve ever written (although it’s the eleventh book I’ve written if we’re counting). I had no idea how tough sequels could be, especially when you have no idea what happens! I knew what happened at the very end, because I know what happens in the third book, but for most of the book I was writing blind. Good thing I thrive on pantsing a novel in a short amount of time (RIP NaNoWriMo).

In all seriousness, this book was hell to write. It took me far longer than it should have. Handwriting failed me for the first time ever, and I used 4thewords.com for more than half of the novel (thank goodness for word wars against monsters!). I sent a version out to my CPs that was so bad I didn’t even hear back from most of them (ouch). Luckily, one CP and two beta readers came through, as did my own brain, and I managed to sculpt that messy draft into something early readers have raved about!

Also, shout out to my copyeditor, Sarah Opst, who was an absolute HERO GODDESS, because half of my quote tags were messed up in formatting and she fixed every single one. She also fixed all my misplaced commas, and even pointed out some structural stuff I had missed in my own edits.

And now it’s time to send that baby book out into the world! I’m proud of what I accomplished with it, and I’m so excited to wrap up Finn and Erie’s story in Book Three, which I’ll start posting on my Ream in May. (and then I’m excited to get back to my beloved Fie Eoin and write Kari’s story, because she’s my favorite <3)

I’ll be at the Mermaid Festival this weekend, signing books and hanging out with the mermaids. If you’re in the PNW, come see me! And if you’re farther away, I’ll have signed books for sale when I return 🙂

Thank you for all your support through the years <3 I know way back in 2019 when some of you first read StO, we never thought there’d be another. Some stories take longer than others.

See The Depths Print Pre-orders!

I told you yesterday I’d have news about StO2 pre-orders within the week, and that news is today!

The pre-order will only be open for a limited time, because I need to know how many books to print before the Mermaid Festival. So if you’re interested in a signed book before I return from the Mermaid Festival (April 5th & 6th in Aberdeen, WA!), make sure you grab a copy while the pre-order window is open 🙂 I’ll add your book to the print order and get it in the mail before the Festival.

Once I’ve returned from the Festival I’ll be selling any copies I couldn’t sell on site, so if you miss the pre-order don’t worry! And of course the book will be available to order at all your favorite stores.

Want an e-book copy instead? You can pre-order that here!

One More Month!

Happy Friday, Aledan Merfolk! I know the title of the post says One More Month, but it’s actually LESS THAN A MONTH until See The Depths releases!!

The final draft is currently with the copyeditor going through line edits, and I’m looking for ARC readers to post some early reviews and build some excitement. If you’re interested in becoming an ARC reviewer (that’s Advanced Reader Copy), you can fill out this form.

Not sure you can commit to becoming an early reviewer? I’ll have preorders for the print book the next week! (You can already preorder the ebook direct from me or on several of your favorite retailers)

I’ll also be signing books at the Mermaid Festival in Aberdeen, WA the weekend of April 5th & 6th! We had so much fun last year launching Speak The Ocean at the Mermaid Festival, and this year’s launch of See The Depths should be even better! Join us for the festivities!

I hope you’re ready to See The Depths! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

December 30, 2024

Goodbye 2024, Hello 2025!

Boudin being the happiest boy

Happy Monday, Aledan Merfolk! The year is almost over and I, for one, am happy to help usher it out the door. We lost several family members this year, including our old man, Boudin, and it was a challenging year on the whole.

But the year wasn’t all bad. This is the year that I officially became a self-published author! And you know what? For as much as I never wanted to self-publish, I’ve found it very rewarding. It’s been a lot of work (and money), but it’s also been so satisfying to know that I did all that work and got my book into people’s hands, and overall they’re enjoying it. I’m sitting at 4.6 stars on Amazon, with 137 reviews! I had about 50 reviews and 4.7 stars from the original publication, so getting that many reviews and still keeping the high rating is pretty damn good.

Overall this year, I’ve sold over 500 books, which I’m pretty proud of! I sold 617 copies of the original version of StO between 2019-2022, so nearing that in less than a year on my own makes me so excited! You can find copies all over Whidbey Island (the Book Rack is my home store and carries it for a dollar less than anywhere else), in Anacortes and Bellingham, and even in Key West! And with book two coming out in April, and book three in the works now, I’m excited about the rest of this series 🙂

If you haven’t heard about the rest of the series yet, I announced See The Depths in October (you can preorder the ebook direct from me right now, or wait for a signed paperback in April). Publication date is April 4th, and I’ll be at the International Mermaid Museum for their annual Mermaid Festival that weekend to sign books! The festival is so much fun, and I hope you can join us to officially launch See The Depths that weekend!

I’m also drafting Book Three in the series right now, and I think you’re going to really like it. I can’t tell you much, because I don’t want to spoil the ending of Book Two, but I can tell you that things get very dangerous for the Seadom. I plan to have that drafted by the time Book Two comes out, and then I’m heading back to Fie Eoin!! Karigan has been screaming at me to finally write her story, and I can’t wait! If you’ve been around since back in the FE days, you are going to LOVE Kari. Take Kindra, give her a big helping of self-confidence, some really, REALLY cool twin-bond powers, and a snarky mouth, and you have Karigan. She’s my favorite character to write!

If you want to read StO2 and StO3 before they’re published, I post a chapter every week on my Ream subscription. And if you’re looking for a cheap ebook of StO, it’s currently 50% off at Smashwords through January 1st!

I hope you had a great holiday season, Aledan Merfolk! I’m excited for what the next year will bring, book-wise 🙂

See The Depths Cover Reveal! (and preorder links!)

Happy Friday, Aledan Merfolk! And Happy Birthday to me (and Juliana! And Mike! Who both have new books out!)

We are exactly six months out from the publication date of SEE THE DEPTHS, book two in the Speak The Ocean series! So I come bearing gifts: namely, the new cover, which is so gorgeous I literally cried when I saw it. I knew I wanted the second book to have the same general look as the first, but I couldn’t decide between a purple or red background. I thought purple would probably go better with the general cool-tones of the other colors (the third book will be lighter blue), but this book is bloody, so I thought the red could really pop. And it did, but it didn’t fit what I was going for. And neither did the purple. Bummer.

But my awesome cover artist, Cait Greer, knew just the thing to do! And I’m pretty sure it’s going to be my favorite of the three (sorry, Books One and Three).

But first, how about a description. If you haven’t read Speak The Ocean, SPOILERS for the end of the book!

***

Finnegan Jarvis should be dead right now – drowned at the hands of the most vicious mermaid the landfolk have ever seen. He would be, if his girlfriend hadn’t transformed him into a merfolk like herself. Now he’s a superpredator, seeing the depths of the ocean, and exploring the Seadom with Erie by his side. So why can’t he stop thinking about the surface?

Being a mythical creature isn’t as magical as he first imagined. When Erie takes him hunting, the fish scream. When she tries to get physical, the alienness of his own body makes him pull away. And when the King finds out Finn’s life has come at the price of Princess Clair’s, Finn becomes a target not only of the King’s wrath, but of nearly the entire Seadom.

Then the boats begin hunting Mer again. Finn realizes he has a choice to make: stay with Erie as a powerless Mer forever, or make the painful transformation back to human and stop them, losing her in the process.

Isn’t it gorgeous? I love how the magenta at the top bleeds into the dark indigo of the deep ocean at the bottom. Cait really knocked it out of the park, and I can’t wait to have a print version on my shelf next to the first book!

If you want your own print copy, you’ll have to wait a bit for preorders, because they aren’t ready yet. But I’ll have signed copies on my website like always, complete with bookmarks and stickers!

If you want an e-book copy, you can preorder them from all of your favorite bookstores, as well as direct from me!

And if you don’t have your copy of Speak The Ocean yet, you can also get those directly from me in both e-book and print. You can find the links to all formats here: https://rebeccaenzor.com/books/
