Field Research for Book 2

First: a few updates on timing. My current book, By The Same Relentless Enemy, begins for me a series of at least 3 books in what will be the Relentless Enemy series. The next book on which I'm working will continue to follow the characters that are introduced in BTSRE. I have as my latest estimate a late fall 2018 publishing date for the next book. At the end of BTSRE, I announce that the title of this next book will be The Council of the Invictus. If you have made it through BTSRE, you will know the significance of the next book's initials.

Now, an update on some productive travels I've recently had: a week or so ago, I had occasion to visit Chicago and begin to do some site visits in different places in the city where there will be new scenes in the coming book. Given that it was fall (and great weather!), it was inspiring to spend time in several buildings, churches, and public venues that will be many of the settings in which the characters of Craig, Danny, Lauren (and several new ones) will interact.

A ton of creative progress was made on the trip. I took the train back from Chicago to Fort Wayne which allowed for several hours of uninterrupted time that was spent furiously typing on the laptop as I captured all of the ideas and nuances that came flooding at me while in Chicago.

Planning another visit there in early December to continue this process. More to come...

How it all started...

So, first off a confession: rewind 10 years or so ago, and I would've never thought I'd write a book. But somehow, as you keep having different creative thoughts and ideas come into your head, it just pushes you that way. And the more the ideas seemed increasingly unique, and how they started to jell together, the more I felt compelled to get the story out of my head.

I've always been fascinated with the unknown, or the strange events in history, either from popular culture or those from your own experience, that you'd just love to know the 'real' story about. I always wondered what it would be like to be present but invisible, observing such things as Dealey Plaza in Dallas in 1963, or the unexplained disappearance of someone you hear about on the news. That was the idea and concept that started for me the tale that unfolds in my book By The Same Relentless Enemy. The idea for the book was made even more intriguing based on an old letter my grandfather received when his father passed in 1917 (the actual letter appears in the book in Chapter 7). My great-grandfather was an esteemed member of his community, and the letter of condolence reflected that sentiment. But the letter also contained phrases and language that I could only describe as cryptic and mysterious. This, along with my fascination with the unknown that occurred in past events, led me to write the book.

The fun thing for me and hopefully an enjoyable thing for my readers is that the story arcs at the end of By The Same Relentless Enemy are just starting to move along...you've no doubt seen that play out if you've finished the book already.

So I'm now in the midst of taking those story arcs into the next book which I'm targeting for release before the end of 2018. More to come...
